I am not sure why but the main character seems a tad bit different in the 2nd chapter (or story? or job?) than in the first one and it is a tad bit weird. Anyway, onto the third job.

Still a bummer about the art which made me ignore this volume for a few days (a week?), but Spike's personality is coming through no matter what.

I feel like I'm reading a really different book than what the synopsis has promised. I'm a quarter in and nothing from the synopsis so far 😱

So... I am thinking about not rating books with stars anymore.

I am sure this book was better suited for 15 y/o, when I was a bit more dreamy and whimsical and when it was easier to find the usual constructs as we know them.

Gonna DNF.

I think what bothers me the most is that it deals with some pretty heavy subjects and if we had complex characters I would find it hard not to empathize with all of them - but this one, I kinda hate them all and I am annoyed at all of them!! Heck, I am starting to feel bad for one of the killers!

Also I wish the characters were a bit more fleshed out, and maybe they are too many? Cause I really don't care for anyone so if the focus was only on a few POV it might've been better. Who knows.

A new thing was added but it's already too late, I am bored :(

And I know there's 40% more of this book so there will probably be a twist or whatever, although I have a feeling it has to do with the old crime the killer is basing his crimes on and we will be so surprised who the killer was years ago (I already know, although I hope that's a red herring too but... probably not).

I feel like... everything is so obvious in this book. I remember reading another JT Ellison book and really enjoying it, but this one... is like the author think her readers are REALLY REALLY stupid because everything is too obvious and I was hoping all these "clues" were red herrings, but no, it really is this obvious!

Why, oh, why do I let TikTok decide what to read next? This is so boring so far and it's grumpy&sunshine (which I usually adore)!! Zero chemistry, zero interested in reading about a fake Disneyland.

It's a tad bit long. I feel like everything could move faster and... I ALREADY KNOW WHO DID IT! Unless it's a red herring but it's a bit too obvious to be a red herring and I know the author set it up as impossible but... but I am sure I know who did it!

I am so in! J.T. Ellison is slowly becoming an auto-read author!

I live for the moments Anne appears. Those are my highlight of this reading experience. Also, spending more than 2h with this book gives me migraines :)))

The other thing is... I don't really care about historical fiction - my idea of historical fiction is creating an alternative history or adding in some more drama, and Wolf Hall is dramatic but in a very distant way. Do I make any sense? Why am I reading a 600 pages tome when I don't even enjoy historical fiction?

The thing is... I am still confused half of the time as to what's happening and I have the feeling everything happens between the lines while I have to spend my time in Cromwell's head which I assume is the point anyway, but I'd much rather live in Mary Boleyn's head :))). Anyway, halfway mark (ignoring that there are two more books after this one). Cheers!

I was expecting it to be fun - but it's even funnier than I expected it to be, I am laughing out loud. A few moments in the first part were a tad bit weird - I swear, Quinn always chooses such weird plot devices.
