This is essentially a collection of short stories to flesh out the "Song of Fire & Ice" lore. It is very entertaining. More so than I thought it would be. Would still rather be reading book 6 though.

Such a classic. Love it more every time I read it.

Not sure if this is what I was expecting. Long chapters are bothering me. This might be a book I abandon.

Going to take a break from this book for a bit. Enjoying it, but...it's been a struggle to motivate myself to read it. Going to switch gears with some other books. We'll see if I come back to this.

Time to read the one Jonathan Franzen book that WASN'T part of Oprah's Book Club!

Been a long time since I've read a Stephen King book. Time to get around to one of his all-time classics for the first time.

Continuing to enjoy this masterfully written series!

Been wanting to read this book since 2005. Lost track of that goal, but now (having found it in a church garage sale for $0.50) it's time to read what is considered one of the all-time classic books!

I suspect this will be a fast read, but an interesting one!

Alright...just got finished reading about the damn e-mails. Next chapter is about *shudder* the Russians. *takes drink* Come on Hillary: MAKE ME LAUGH!!!

Is Tyrion dead? I hope he's not dead, but it looks like he's dead.

When she talks about personal struggles I am engrossed and when she talks politics I am grossed out. Oh well...onward!

For a brief moment I thought Arya would be in this...until I remembered her part of the story was in the OTHER book!

Hillary still talks about certain aspects of the election as if she'd never lived them. So far, she has been unwilling to admit her presidential run was anything but perfect. This sort of delusion bothers me. That said, she says some very powerful things about why being president meant so much to her, and why it would have for other people that rings very true and authentic. Still some issues, but I'll keep going.

It's weird to be reading events that are taking place BEFORE the events in the previous book!

So great to have Jon and Bran back in the story! And, hey, what do you know: almost all of the characters seem to be heading towards The Wall, which means there JUST might be a nice (long overdue) reunion between most of the major characters!

While there are many moments of inherent dishonesty (from my perspective), there are also many moments of genuine sorrow and emotion. I can already tell this is going to be a VERY polarizing book for me! I can tell it will not be an easy one to finish. Well, alright, I'll finish it in a couple days, but a final opinion on whether this is a great read or not is going to be a challenge.

Yes...I'm actually tackling this one. I've decided to read autobiographies concurrently with whatever novel I'm currently reading (and this will certainly be finished before "A Dance with Dragons"). The first two chapters have been an interesting mix of personal tragedy and continued delusion. I will elaborate later in a full review should things not change.

I think it's time I pause a moment and make an observation: This book is not going to be finished quickly. This is partly because the page count surpasses 1,000 pages again, but also because the text is smaller. This is probably good since the sixth book isn't published yet, which means I'll know what its like to wait for the next installment soon enough.

Yay! Tyrion's back!

Alright...I've accepted that Tyrion is not going to show up in this book. I guess that Jon Snow cameo from Sam's point of view is likely the only time I'm going to see him in this as well. Dragon lady likely won't show up. Thank goodness Arya is in this at least.

The odd thing about this series is that it is at once captivating and difficult to put down, yet on the other hand it is rarely having any payoffs to justify the length. It is setup after setup, and after more than 3,000 pages of it, I wonder if there is an end in sight. Or does George R.R. Martin just love the world THAT much?!

It's nice that Arya is back in the story...but where's Tyrion, Jon, Sansa, and Bran? Oh well, I AM enjoying the new extended storylines for Brienna and Jamie!

It's interesting that Sansa and Tyrion are the biggest players in the book, and yet Sansa has had one PoV chapter while Tyrion has none.

The last book may have dragged a bit in the middle, but the fourth book is firing on all cylinders! At this rate this will be the fastest I've ever finished one of these books from this (still pretty amazing) series!
