Since they both read a lot, they quarreled in the language of books, so that, if they didn't slip suddenly into the most brutal dialect to insult each other, I would have listened to their squabbling almost with admiration.

One morning, when Imma was just over two months old, my mother said weakly: Lenu, I'm truly content now, it's only you I'm worried about, but you are you and you've always been able to arrange things as you liked, so I have confidence. Then she went to sleep and fell into a coma.

When you're reading the right book, everything will fall into place. Even hardened grammar nitpickers like yours truly, will just give up and smile...

You know you're turning old (and thus can legitimately freak out), when you start seeing the appeal of retiring to the country-side. *sighs*

I'm now feeling a disturbing urge to go and visit my parents' tiny cabin. Something I've always hated doing as a kid. *eyes book suspiciously*

That's not our cabin, but it has a similar... ugh... feel(?) to it.

Mexico in the 19th century

I really like the setting so far (1870s Yucatan area).
Characters seem to be all very flawed, but just when I'm ready for outright dislike, they get a bit redeemed.

I tried carrying some pastries in by bag once... it didn't end well. Bag still smells of vanilla pudding almost 2 years later.

I don't hate it, but there also absolutely NOTHING in here that I like. Maybe just the prospect of getting to see all the different planets in the movie.

I suppose it's like the mental equivalent of the scene where Charles Wallace is eating tasteless food.

Also Meg, 10 seconds later: "I wouldn't eat your old food, anyhow. I wouldn't trust it."

Overall, she seemed to be going for a sort of mid-'80s postapocaliptic cyberpunk girl-next-door look.

WHAT?!

Dayum! The 80s in the US must've been some of the craziest times, eh?
Other than that, things're looking (sounding?) great so far!

'That wasn't really a holiday, dear,' said Vimes.
'Well it was very interesting, all the same,' said Sybil.
'Yes, dear. Werewolves tried to eat me.'

'Salacia Deloresita Amanita Trigestatra Zeldana...' [Vetinari] paused, turned over several pages, and said, 'I think we can skip some of these, but they end "von Humpeding". She is 51 but' he added quickly, before Vimes could seize on this revelation, 'that is no age at all for a vampire. Oh, and she'd prefer to be known simply as Sally.'

"No", said Henri slowly. "Being smitten is not dangerous. You have always loved him. That was fatal".
