I can't decide whether I like this book or not; as in Dragonbone Chair, Tad Williams builds a rich imaginative world with a generational clash of mortal and immortal centered on an ancient castle (seriously, the short version of the plot is essentially identical), but the tone is more grim and the protagonists less heroic (one appears to be going insane), and it's the first of 4 BIG novels... it's a conundrum

Just 45 pages to go! (yes, I know that the page count goes to 544, but there's a lot of post-script and a sample of some other book at the end)

Seriously, I could finish this book in a little over an hour if I would just sit down and read it... WHY IS THIS SO HARD!?!?! No, I know why it's so hard, the series has been on a downward spiral since book 4, and watching it lurch to the end, aping the things that made the first 3.5 books great, trying to find some sort of conclusion is just plain painful.

Ok, so right now I'm reading a contemporary mystery, a teen fantasy, an alternate history, a high fantasy, and a space navy novel... add in middle grade fantasy, a tech thriller, and a historical fiction novel and I'd pretty much be reading the whole set of my favorite genres...
