"It is to be questioned whether ... there is a more admirable spot for a man in love to pass a day or two than the typical English village. The Rocky Mountains, that traditional stamping-ground for the heartbroken, may be well enough in their way; but a lover has to be cast in a pretty stem mould to be able to be introspective when at any moment he may meet an annoyed cinnamon bear."

I really thought this series was over with the previous volume (and amusingly enough, in the forward, the author mentions that this was a common misconception), shows what I know

Yeah, I finished reading something again, I must be feeling better (I write as I fight off another bout of coughing). At this point, i give myself maybe a 1 in 3 chance of actually finishing my reading challenge. I had a nice lead, but the last 2.5 weeks have seen it fade away as I've been sick.

Happy to vote for The Will of the Many for fantasy of the year, but surprised not to see Yomi and the Nightmare Painter among the options (even if it had, I would've still voted for the Will of the Many, but YatNP would've been my second choice).

I think I know why I thought I'd read a lot of these before: they were the stories in the first J&W collection which featured Wodehouse's proto-Bertie character and he basically just touched them up and put J&W in, which is... ok, but kind of redundant as there's no real changes to the stories.

So, yeah, it might seem "wow, Dan, you're tearing into this" but the truth is that chapters 2-5 were included in the previous two collections, so I skipped rereading them. Interestingly, the original version of Jeeves takes Charge (in which Jeeves becomes Wooster's valet) involves the bit where Lady Florence Cray wants Bertie to destroy his uncle's (not Sir Bassett's) manuscript rather than the Glossop business.

This book raises so many Cosmere questions: The Cinder King refers to Roshar as "a world where men become gods" gods PLURAL, as in not just x becoming y in the last book? Are Roshar and Scadrial future rival interstellar superpowers (mistborn space rangers vs knight radiant starship troopers? YES, PLEASE!)? Why is Hoid messing around with a dawnshard? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

"In English trains the tipping classes travel first... But for these social distinctions, the whole fabric of society would collapse and anarchy stalk naked through the land - as in the United States."
