Reading about the history, culture and faith of the Yazidi people was so beautiful... Reading about what the Islamic State did to them is so horrible...

Shafak's ability to include so many facets of experience and identity, across time and space into one beautiful novel is nothing short of amazing.

Looking forward to read more of her work!

Has not aged as well as Dostoevsky's work, but is growing on me! Gogol's humour is as always, the selling point of his works.

This isn't an easy read by any metric. Best compared to 'Notes From the Underground', in that the narrators state of mind and perspective make it a challenge.

Our main character is so intelligent and yet so brain washed... Truly scary.
