One of the things I am taking away from this book is that I, as a massive consumer of books, know frightfully little about the authors and publishing companies that produce them...

Superbly written so far, but the capitalist elements are so far removed from my everyday reality that it may aswell be dystopian or fantasy fiction.

Far more cultural criticism than I had imagined!

RF Kuang has succeeded in writing one of the most deeply unlikable, frustrating and frustrating narrators/MC I've read in literature. All while making the plot and themes extremely compelling.

I had no clue there was a Chinese Labour Corp in the British army in WW1! Or any Egyptian one prior for that matter!

Willing to bet the author has read a little bit of uncle Dostoevsky

A lot more existential than I was expecting, and very scathing in its treatment of Western Christianity.

Profound and counter-cultural

I am finding it Spiritually beneficial, intellectually stimulating and historically interesting. Also surprisingly funny at points

This is quickly becoming one of my favourite Orthodox Christian books... I need more like it.

Using one of the sagas told in the book to recap the last book was genius 😂. I relied on chat GPT but this was much better.
