Funny thing is, Trump and the GOP do actually make me feel more patriotic. The most patriotic thing I can do is do what I can to ensure that Trump's political ambitions are utterly destroyed, that the GOP is ruined or shamed into reform or oblivion, and not an ember is left smoldering of their disgusting, loathsome pyre of a campaign season.

I'm pretty sure Coover wrote this book specifically for me, for my specific particular sense of absurdity, humor, and enjoyment. This might be the book I've always wanted to write!

That opening section was pure genius. One could write a pretty hefty essay on those first 6 pages alone. Coover, you beautiful sumnabitch.

Folks around DC - the National Gallery has on display in its "Celebrating Paul Mellon" exhibit an original of Mallarmé's translation of Poe's The Raven illustrated by Manet. Glorious - see it if you can. The rest of the exhibit is wonderful too!

As I'm entering the final stretch of this book, I'm becoming convinced it's a Great Novel, one of those 1,000 things to read before mortality expels you etc. But definitely not for everybody, to get these sentences - not for businessman or Republicans, money- or power-mongers, or others who've killed the urge to dream.

Totally wrong about this book on my first read - I take it all back - it's so wonderful, and feels very close to the heart of things. A book for dedicated outsiders...

How did I miss this book's genius the first time around? It's so alive it's practically writhing in my hands.
