This book contains everything I love about books - except for some reason I just can't bring myself to give a shit about it.

Just got both volumes of Steegmuller's Flaubert letters in hardcover - duly stoked.

Both The Hateful Eight and The Revenant were mildly disappointing - but the cinematography in both was fantastic - The Revenant was one of the most beautifully photographed films I've ever seen - too bad the storytelling wasn't there... Anybody else seen these yet?

I'm already in love with this. Is there anything better than a polyphonic multivocal city novel? And this one being especially good... Such sense of rhythm in the prose...

So does "Magical Realism" just mean a book written with an intensely beautiful, vividly drawn imagination that doesn't care to be bound by limits? This is gorgeous...

The Counterforce

As the book crescendos toward the final section (The Counterforce), Pynchon's writing is somehow gathering even more beauty and power and sense - and I'm finding so many re-emergences from the early parts of The Zone in these end parts - Slothrop's journey back West has been phenomenally well done...
