I'm not reading this enough; subtitled : it's big and heavy and onion-skin pages cloister-type reading; but MAN when I sit down on a rainy fall evening with a glass of quality rye or bourbon and give this thing its due attention - that's delightful!

I know this book was published in 2002 and is ostensibly about the filmic 20th century, but goddamn if reading it isn't the equivalent of perceptually experiencing the internet here in late 2015. And yep, I'm sure I'll recycle that idea in my review, so what?

Not through the (copious) introductory material yet (Z is much too weighty and big to carry around on public transportation or to work, so it's a cloister read) but they are so thoroughly well-done, well-written, etc. PRIME ESSAYING here folks! A beautiful production, this book ...

Goddamn I'm nursing an overwhelming urge to immediately start a second reading of Against The Day. One of a handful of truly great reading experiences... that's all... Carry on... Happy weekend to you all.

Does anyone out there ever worry that we read so much because life itself offers so little in terms of adventure, imagination, depth, variety, passion, experience, connection, etc. so that we have to go to books to feel like we are feeling anything at all? This horrifies me.

1000 pages. Feels like a landmark in this journey.
