That was horrifying. Really well written, and a terrifying book to read in April of 2025. Turtledove does an excellent job blending the every day mundanities of life with the horror of living under a dictatorship. And yet I walk away with hope, which hits just right.

I really want two of these guys to end up together and I don't think they will, but I'll keep rooting for them.

Just met Teza. LOVE HER SO MUCH.

So far, this one isn't nearly as good as Lethal White. It's too bogged down in all the documents the detectives read, and there isn't enough personal character stuff.

So far I am meh on Isabelle's character, but loving Gaeton and Beast a lot.

The world is too depressing to read about teenage mutilation and rape. DNFing this one.

These characters are not very likable. Maybe Filomena, but that's it. And Hugh. He can stay.

It's really atmospheric and creepy so far.

Ugh I am so so sick about hearing about how she doesn't like her husband or her kid, but I really want to know what is actually going on on Mars, so I feel like I need to finish it.

I am so-so on this one. Parts of it are fascinating. There' a lot of random ranting about how she doesn't want to be a mother. But I'm curious enough about the ending to keep going.

Apparently the duke has a first name, but there's 40 minutes left of the 10 hour audiobook and I just learned it. Whut.

This book is fascinating, and very accessible to read. The librarian in me likes that.

This book makes me physically recoil at it's content. I have made vomiting noises several times while driving because of all the nasty stuff people do in this book.

I find nearly every character in this book annoying as hell, and I can't wait for them all to get eaten by a giant shark.

This book was so good for a while, and it just took a turn for the crazy. I will finish it, becuase I want to see where the crazy goes, but damn.
