this narrator is doing THE ABSOLUTE MOST and I am here for it. but also I love these illustrations and if I end up liking the book enough, I think I'd like to purchase it and color them in lol

as much as I love the Jewish cultural elements, I'm not sure it's enough to truly win me over. a lot of the writing and thoughts are very simplistic and straightforward and over-explained. and there's not yet a real hook in the plot going on, or very large characters.

this book never ends and nothing ever happens

The writing is nice, similar to Addie la Rue I guess, and I enjoy a good-for-her story... but I can't say I'm particularly gripped by the plot and there's been very little focus on anyone other than Maria/Sabine.

I do not enjoy this narrator and especially not the voice/vocal fry they use for some of the main characters. I wanna say it's Buck in particular that I find particularly grating.
Otherwise the book is fine. The horror is not as present at the forefront as I'd like, but it's intriguing enough to keep reading. The characters are annoying and held at arm's length so I literally don't care about any of them.

I bounced off this hard when I first started it ages ago and have been waiting until I think I'm in the mood to try again. Switched up formats and am reading the ebook instead of the audiobook now and it's sooooo much better.
I did swap to immersion at the end of the chapter (~5 pages) cause my eyes were getting too sleepy and I think it was the wrong call. Eyeballs only for this one.

I've been reading this for 90 min and it feels like 90 years.
(reading for the Goodreads Challenge because I'm a completionist, but man this is dull)

so far this writing is not very good but I'm trying to give it a chance for the story to cook

It's not bad, but it's feeling very YA and overwrought and I'm struggling to care
