On the train, things going badly. He's mad about her aborting the baby. That's what she told him, but there are many hints, some obvious, that she is still pregnant. She is lonely and self-pitying while he is enjoying the freedom. Neither he nor she think she would do well out west, but she is still determined to study with Dancer Tubbs.

The weather brigade was not entirely successful, but wore themselves out calming the weather for boat evacuations and providing overcast skies to make it harder for the aircraft to fire on the fleeing. It was a multiple day endeavor. Then Nick needed to go get his dad. Nick, Polly, Tori and Allarde went to war to help.

Tori and Allarde (Justin) are a couple, but it can't go anywhere. He had premonitions that he was going to die young of a mortal wound. He was shot in the neck returning from Dunkirk and Tori drew on everyone's magic to frantically heal Justin.

Rennie gets Hollis to confess in a church and Jarret shoots him in shoulder. They move to Queens Point for rail project and Dancer is well supplied and likely hanging around. Hints dropped about him fixing Jarret's shoulder.

Story jumps right in. It can be hard to follow since there are so many things unsaid or only barely referenced and Piper and Jules have a certain ability to communicate without words. Finn is prominent and he actually can read minds but doesn't seem to be doing so right now. She set fire to a seedy hotel and he comes swooping in to rescue her with Finn helping.

She was being blackmailed with her dead husband's love letters to another man. The guy doing the blackmailing is also gay. Nate and Sophie start and affair early on and just click and are very much in love with each other, but they don't know about the other.

Moira tries to walk home 3 miles in snow storm alone. Ken goes after her and they take shelter in hut and he keeps her warm. She becomes pregnant and they marry at 3 months along. She looses baby on wedding night. They are estranged, but then he attempts reconciliation by bringing her to London.

Kat is a cook, her boss is found with one of her knives in his back. She is sent to Newgate to be held for trial. Daniel gets her out and it turns out that he has been poisoned. Arsenic on the sugar cellar, butler put it there at request of sister of housekeeper.

The more I read, the more I get pulled into the story and you don't want to put it down. So I read most of the day yesterday and too late into the night.

They have finally reached the monastery. Woven throughout the story are witticisms reflecting Farilane's thoughts and commentary on so many things in life. Part of what makes these books really good is the subtext and irony that is on-going in real life just like the story. It helps to make it all relatable and the book engaging.

Farilane has only been partially successful in her book search. Now, she starts on the real quest of the book, without her protectors, against the emperor's orders (maybe), with a friend and a foe in tow. And Malcolm AKA Kile has a staff.

Now we meet Malcolm with a new name; and he is not disguised to anyone who has read Legends.

Chapter 2 introduces us to Proust and the conspiracy to rewrite history through ignorance, subterfuge, and false information portrayed as "truth". It draws a strong irony that both Fairlane and Sheldon are searching for the truth...

Fairlane is 5 generations from Nolyn and extremely detail specific. She has 2 Teshlor Knights to guard her and she's looking for an extremely old hidden book. It is 1026 years since Nephron died. There's also witty way to describe how history becomes distorted.

I keep thinking about just quitting the book, but I feel like I should finish it. There are a lot of words spent on clothing details and generally how Sophie doesn't fit and is unlikely to fit or want to. described in terms of a prison. You learn little about Hugo, and even when something sparks with her, it's not well described.

plot too slow to develop external conflict

Story progressing slowly. They took the elevator and the doors opened into 1925 Shorten (name of area). Others have come, but none have been able to return. Hugo tries to blend in and Sophie keeps bucking the expectations and trying to get back to the lift 20 miles away. Her necklace was stolen.

Christain is repeatedly concerned about being depraved. It makes you wonder why? We only know that Jane is desperately fighting to save herself and likely comes from an innocent background.

Christian is a seriously damaged person and drinks heavily to compensate. He also has a friend trying to pull him back to the world of living and caring.

Book starts with Penny Dread Society meeting (lots of characters), then jumps into a story about a school of ghosts. After a brief introduction, we get into the main story of Hollis and Ana, whose paths cross little. Insert the first and second installment of the Gentleman and thief and you are juggling 4 story lines.

She is plodding along in the past and makes various mental notes about value of the individual being a new concept.

Zante has gone to the past and is trying figure out what and when this girl is that needs her help. She won't go back because she can't control the coming and going and her mom needs her.

I keep finding myself jumping to other books because it is just not holding my attention.

Cleo has now ruined her reputation and has gotten 2 senior managers fired from their jobs. How could she come back from that?

I am engaged and enjoying the forced interactions between these two who are in such a conflicted situation between personal and professional demands.

I started reading because I saw an interesting ad and it was a prime reading book. It seems to be on the risqué side of things and not my normal type of book to read.

I am plodding along listening to the book, but I think I am burned out on Marian Hussey's voice and CJ Archer books for right now. I keep wanting to go onto something different

Raven is a likeable enough fellow trying to protect Jane, but she is an arrogant harpy fishwife. The descriptions regarding Jane are too cerebral and not humane and certainly not relatable. She repeatedly casts horrible dispersions on Raven's character even when in his home.
