It's definitely worse than the TV show. Every single change made to the adaptation was a good one thus far, bar killing Wells (hot take, I'm aware). Are there even Grounders? I'm halfway through and nothing. The first episode covered more ground. The character dynamics are so different. It's not bad, but comparing it to the show just makes everything seem worse.
