"slow going as it's too simple to be the main dish. but still a bit interesting so I chip away at a chapter a day. i do feel a longing to finish so i can claim to have finished it...mainly i am intrigued by the cultural difference. She reads a lot of Western writers but she doesn't write with a style or content of someone who would normally get published in an english market & I am trying to put my finger on what..." Epicurus
“Death, therefore, the most awful of evils, is nothing to us, seeing that, when we are, death is not come, and, when death is come, we are not.”
Epicurus

Maria Montessori
“Imagination does not become great until human beings, given the courage and the strength, use it to create.”
Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori
“We cannot know the consequences of suppressing a child's spontaneity when he is just beginning to be active. We may even suffocate life itself. That humanity which is revealed in all its intellectual splendor during the sweet and tender age of childhood should be respected with a kind of religious veneration. It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open up himself to life.”
Maria Montessori

Mitch Albom
“You have peace," the old woman said, "when you make it with yourself.”
Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven

Wendell Berry
“The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
Wendell Berry, The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry
