The setting is in the town of Sherwood. It is the medieval times. Lady Marian is an insecure tremendously tall, young lady and she is betrothed to the strikingly handsome Robin of Locksley. Robin went off to fight in the crusades and Marian was dutifully waiting for his return. One day she was going on a ride on her horse Jonquille. Suddenly she saw Will, who was one of Robin’s men, and was her maid Elena’s brother, tied up and in front of Sir Guy of Gisborne. Sir Guy formerly fought in the crusades, and had many scars from battle Marian hated him because she thought he was ruthlessly cruel. When Marian asked what was going on Sir Guy said that Will was guilty of theft and said that they were going to hand him Marian protested and said that he was Robin’s man. At that Sir Guy told Marian the appalling, atrocious awful news Robin was tragically killed. When Marian heard of the news she was devastated and in deep despair, because she and Robin had been best friends since they were children, and in her shock she let Will’s bonds go and he escaped into Sherwood Forest. Marian was escorted back to her and her father’s castle where she stayed baffled at the prospect of her betrothed and beloved friend dying. She decided to secretly go on a night ride in Sherwood Forest to try and rescue Will. She wore Robin’s cloak while she was riding so no one would recognize her. Will who was hiding in the forest began to attack her, because up he thought she was one of Gisborne’s men and was looking for him. Will stopped fighting her when he realized that she was not trying to hurt him, but then Gisborne and his men tried to catch them. Marian saved Will and his friends. His friends were Alan the minstrel, who was betrothed to Elena, and John who was just a thief. They all thought that Marian was a man because she was dressed in Robin’s cloak and they gratefully thanked her and she left. They later came to the conclusion that she was Robin Hood back from the dead. She made a mask and wore it when she was in their company. Over time they became her men and they stole from the rich and gave to the poor. They had no clue that their fearless leader “Robin Hood” was really Lady Marian. Gisborne who loved Lady Marian and wanted to marry her loathed Robin Hood and they had many battles. After a while Marian surprisingly found she was falling in love with Sir Guy and was very perplexed at her feelings. Each time “Robin” and “his” men stole the more dangerous it was, so “Robin” decided that they should end their thievery. After “his” men begged, and pleaded, he decided to have one last mission. The mission was to steal the grain shipment that Sir Guy of Gisborne had told Marian would happen in two days. It began well but Marian suddenly realized that it was a trap! Gisborne and his men were hiding in the cart! Her men escaped and Sir Guy’s men followed them, but “Robin” and Gisborne were fighting. Sir Guy shot “Robin” in the back with an arrow and removed ‘his” mask. When Sir Guy saw that the man he had been chasing, for at least a month was a woman and was his betrothed whom he loved, he could not believe his eyes, helplessly he placed her in jail. The next day she was brought before the townsfolk, where she was about to be hung and the Sheriff mocked her. Just when all hope seemed lost Gisborne appeared. He loved Marian and was going to give himself up for her or so it seemed. He said that he was Robin Hood and caused enough confusion so that he was able to take Marian and run. They narrowly escaped and married shortly after. Sherwood was an extraordinary, fantastic, and awesome read. It is written by Meagan Spooner, and it is 467 pages long, but contrary to what you might think when you hear how long it is, it is worth the time spent reading it.
