Chris Norbury is the award-winning author of the mystery-suspense-thrillers Straight River, Castle Danger, and Dangerous Straits. The stories feature Matt Lanier, a southern Minnesota farm kid-turned professional musician whose middle-class world is turned upside down by a conspiracy of powerful, ambitious, violent men.

He grew up in the Twin Cities and earned a B.S. in Music Education at the University of Minnesota. He’s written for several websites as a freelance writer. His essays on wilderness canoeing have been published in the Boundary Waters Journal.

Hi Laurie,

I'm grinding away on the revision of "Straight River" (the prequel to Castle Danger). It will definitely come out in 2017, hopefully in the first half of the year. Would love to have it published by the end of March in time for the UWWI conference, but that seems optimistic right now.

When I'm stuck on a scene or a plot sequence or how to write a character, I tell myself it's only because I haven't subconsciously decided how to proceed. I have no problem letting a manuscript sit for days or even weeks until my writing "solution" comes to me. The downside is, I write slower than many authors, but then again, I'm not trying for maximum output. I'd rather write one exceptional book rather than 5 average books.(less)

4000 Thank Yous

I hit a major milestone last week at the Riverwalk Market Winter Fair in Northfield. I want to give out 4000 Thank Yous to my readers. One for every book I’ve sold since I started this bookselling Odyssey in 2016!! :-P 8-) I’m blown away that I’ve survived in a world where the average book […]

This one felt like a "breather" to me. Take a break from the usual cops-and-robbers detective mystery and write something offbeat.

Virgil is a great protagonist. Smart, personable, high integrity, great sense of humor, marches to his own drummer. Sand

“I apologize if I've rated your book but not left a review. I've noticed lately that some of my reviews are disappearing after a day or two. It may be a tech issue, might be operator error (me) but I always intend to leave at least a short comment along with a rating.”

“No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. No surprise in the writer, no surprise in the reader.”
Robert Frost

“We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further.”
Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”
Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion

George Carlin

“One should always be drunk. That's all that matters...But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk.”
