Chris Norbury is the award-winning author of the mystery-suspense-thrillers Straight River and Castle Danger, the first two novels of a planned series. The stories feature Matt Lanier, a southern Minnesota farm-kid-turned-professional-musician whose middle-class world is turned upside down by a conspiracy of powerful, ambitious, violent men.

He grew up in the Twin Cities and earned a B.S. in Music Education at the University of Minnesota. He’s written for several websites as a freelance writer. His essays on wilderness canoeing have been published in the Boundary Waters Journal.

Chris is a member of both the Twin Cities and national chapters of Sisters in Crime, the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), and Support for Indie Authors (SIA).

Hi Laurie,

I'm grinding away on the revision of "Straight River" (the prequel to Castle Danger). It will definitely come out in 2017, hopefully in the first half of the year. Would love to have it published by the end of March in time for the UWWI conference, but that seems optimistic right now.

When I'm stuck on a scene or a plot sequence or how to write a character, I tell myself it's only because I haven't subconsciously decided how to proceed. I have no problem letting a manuscript sit for days or even weeks until my writing "solution" comes to me. The downside is, I write slower than many authors, but then again, I'm not trying for maximum output. I'd rather write one exceptional book rather than 5 average books.(less)

Well written, with some distinctive characters, and the plot was solid and made sense. I liked Kate Anderson, the MC. She had a nice combination of character traits and an interesting "fatal flaw"--an attraction to men whom she sensed were dangerous. ...more

Laurie Buchanan's debut thriller is refreshing in many ways. An idyllic, remote writing retreat in northwest Washington serves as a perfect backdrop for the plot. She effortlessly incorporates all five senses into her descriptions. The central cast o ...more

Chandler does it again--writes a brilliant mystery and has Marlowe solve it almost as effortlessly as Sherlock Holmes seemed to solve the mysteries Sir Arthur Conan Doyle threw at him.

Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion

“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.”

Charles Baudelaire, Paris Spleen
