Welcome, and thank you for stopping by.

I’m Sahana, a 29-year-old Indian journalist and editor who loves turning scrawled quotes and crackly voice notes into digital sagas.

In the summer of 2024, I published my novel, Body Traitor’s History. It is a Mughal and Chola-inspired romp about ridiculous weight-loss diets, our hunger for money, our longing for other people’s bodies, and our bottomless appetite for gossip.

In 2020, I completed my Masters in Journalism at The University of Sheffield, graduating with distinction. I am also an NCTJ Industry Gold Standard Level 3 Diploma holder.

In 2019, I graduated from Waseda University’s School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) as the Salutatorian, with a BA in International Liberal Studies, a sta

A cinema house that I visited in Okinawa, Japan [iPhone SE; 2019]

These are my top three beloved garbage films:

There's a beautifully sung line in the Austrian musical 'Elisabeth' that haunts me to this day: "Kaiser Rudolf wird der Zeit entgegen gehn!"

It's tricky to translate for English speakers in a way that captures the nuance of the original while conveyi

“The forest was demonically divine at that hour, a bone-white painting on midnight blue paper. I knew I was just the shadowed body an artist leaves on the margins, meant to stand there until the end of time for something outside this universe to watch, so it could shudder at my isolation, my insignificance, and admire the chilling vastness of the world I wanted to leave.”
S. Venugopal, Body Traitor's History

“He no longer squints in abject confusion at the name of an exercise on his training sheet and does not look at the weighted bar I give him as though waiting for it to issue his marching orders. His body flows from one stance to the next instead of battering the mat or squeaking across the floor. He does not conclude an abdominal exercise and then remark that his neck feels overused.”
S. Venugopal, Body Traitor's History

“The royal poison taster tumbled to the floor, retching. Soldiers burst into the kitchen with their swords drawn and shouted at us to stop cooking until the cause was discovered.

The assassins? Three courtiers’ wives who had baked a giant pineapple cake with mustard oil instead of melted butter.”
S. Venugopal, Body Traitor's History

“I am alone and the road is very dark. I stumble on, I know not how nor care, for the way seems leading nowhere, and there is no light to guide. But at last the morning comes, and I find that I have grown into myself.”
Jerome K. Jerome, Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow

“What would you do if you were me? Tell me. Please tell me!
But you're far from this. Your fingers turn the strangeness of these pages that somehow connect my life to yours. Your eyes are safe. The story is just another few hundred pages of your mind. For me, it's here. It's now. I have to go through with this, considering the cost at every turn. Nothing will be the same.”
Markus Zusak, I Am the Messenger

“History, Stephen said, is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake.”
James Joyce, Ulysses

“Let my country die for me.”

“If that made him heavy company sometimes, so be it. Who decreed that life was to be one long rowdy masquerade (punctuated with those little pets of melancholy indulged by a crowd who made a religion of their feelings)?”
Howard Jacobson, Shylock Is My Name
