I don't want to go on a rant. So I'll try to keep this short. Shortish.

Lizzie is a terrible, horrible, incredibly stupid character who never gives Darcy the iota of a shred of doubt - even when she loves him. She assumes the worst of him at all times. She gets offended at the most incredibly stupid things.

Darcy is perhaps marginally less judgmental (and he's the judge) and a hair less of an idiot. But he makes up for it by being a shitty, shitty judge. I don't care if you SAY he's a great judge so Lizzie wants her clients to have a choice of him on the bench because the other judge is worse. Darcy threatens to throw someone in jail because his penis is sad. THAT IS A SHITTY JUDGE. How much worse can the other judge be? Do they actually eat babies???

Also? You don't have to actively be sticking your penis inside someone to have an ethical conflict. When your emotions are so compromised that you threaten to jail someone because of a sad penis, you have ALREADY CROSSED AN ETHICAL LINE. Also. You are a SHITTY JUDGE WHO SHOULD NOT BE ON THE BENCH!

The author never met an opportunity to slut shame that she didn't gleefully embrace. 4 in 45 pages and she didn't stop there! She nobly restricted her digs against transvestites to only one. How kind of her, I'm sure.

The ONLY reason one should root for these two to end up together is so they don't subject their reprehensible shitbaggery upon other people. They are shitty, shitty human beings. I could not detest them more.

I suppose I would if it even registered that this is supposed to be a retelling of P&P. But honestly, they're so awful, it's hard to make the connection.

If you like intelligent characters who don't always assume the worst about each other, occasionally talk without being assholes, and have a passing acquaintance with being good people, give this book a pass. ...more "
