NICOLA DAVISON’S first novel, "In the Wake," won the 2019 Margaret and John Savage First Book Award, the Miramichi Reader’s Very Best Book Award for Fiction and was a finalist for the Dartmouth Book Award. A graduate of Dalhousie University and the Alistair MacLeod Mentorship Program, she’s an active member of the Writers' Federation of Nova Scotia and the Writers' Union of Canada. I usually have a couple of projects on the go so that when one gets overworked, I can give it a rest and go back to another.

I also find that a good walk with my notepad and a pen can get me going. The trick is that you have to force your mind to stay on something within the story, a character or plotline. It might be as simple as a sentence or an image that comes to me but it's enough to get me typing. (less)
