Charlotte Brontë
“They spoke almost as loud as Feeling: and that clamoured wildly. "Oh, comply!" it said. "Think of his misery; think of his danger — look at his state when left alone; remember his headlong nature; consider the recklessness following on despair — soothe him; save him; love him; tell him you love him and will be his. Who in the world cares for you? or who will be injured by what you do?"

Still indomitable was the reply — "I care for myself. The more solitary, the more friendless, the more unsustained I am, the more I will respect myself. I will keep the law given by God; sanctioned by man. I will hold to the principles received by me when I was sane, and not mad — as I am now. Laws and principles are not for the times when there is no temptation: they are for such moments as this, when body and soul rise in mutiny against their rigour; stringent are they; inviolate they shall be. If at my individual convenience I might break them, what would be their worth? They have a worth — so I have always believed; and if I cannot believe it now, it is because I am quite insane — quite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating faster than I can count its throbs. Preconceived opinions, foregone determinations, are all I have this hour to stand by: there I plant my foot.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Diana Gabaldon
“Overall, the library held a hushed exultation, as though the cherished volumes were all singing soundlessly within their covers.”
Diana Gabaldon, Outlander

Terry Goodkind
“I often hear people say that they read to escape reality, but I believe that what they’re really doing is reading to find reason for hope, to find strength. While a bad book leaves readers with a sense of hopelessness and despair, a good novel, through stories of values realized, of wrongs righted, can bring to readers a connection to the wonder of life. A good novel shows how life can and ought to be lived. It not only entertains but energizes and uplifts readers.”
Terry Goodkind

Charlaine Harris
“We might be on the same page, but I wasn't happy about reading it.”
Charlaine Harris, Dead Reckoning

Oscar Wilde
“The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what Fiction means.”
Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest

Elizabeth (Stuffed Shelves) Thanks so much for the add Charlene!
I look forward to getting to know you and chatting about books!

Charlene I'm glad you liked it! Charming and heart-warming describes it exactly, I thought it was such a sweet book. Forgot about the Pride and Prejudice mention... as one will. :D

K Rochester Hi! Just wanted to say that I just read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society tonight; I thought it a very charming, but also a very heart-warming, touching book. Thanks for your recommendation!!
Loved the Janian/Brontë references:
Not silent in a romantic, brooding way, like Mr. Rochester... *squeee*
I actually did squee ;)
Though the description of Pride and Prejudice as the most romantic book ever I could have done without.... ^_^
