Joy Jordan-Lake's varied--and admittedly odd--professional experience has included working as a college professor, author, journalist, waitress, director of a program for homeless families, university chaplain, horseback riding instructor, free lance photographer, and --the job title that remains her personal favorite--head sailing instructor.

I actually went to Furman, graduated in 1985, and love Greenville! What a renaissance for the city. I did find lots of archival diaries and letter for the daily goings on, as well as published works in which the authors analyzed their archival research. Now and then a line would break through in a diary, something along the lines of "if there is a Divine Judge, then we slaveholders are in very big trouble," though in 19-cen. language.(less)
