Born and raised in Southeast Asia, I have lived in four different countries and three different states. I have an M.A. in Philosophy and am an award winning author of science fiction and fantasy.

I adore reading. But only good books.

I like cooking for people that I love. Sometimes I like doing yoga. I used to crochet, but I've kind of given up on it (my 10-year-old niece is already way better than I'll ever be). I am learning German and Latin as my 3rd and 4th languages.

Thanks for the question! I'm sorry for my late reply, I didn't see the notification for this.

While I love Isabelle and Sebastian's story, some of the beauty of it (for me) lies in its simplicity. I started drafting thinking it would be more of a 7k story, and while it ended up being almost twice that length, it was very clear to me by the end that it was over. I think the beauty of shorter fiction is that there is more room for the reader to make the story their own and fill in the gaps and the before and after with their own imagination.

All that being said, I am not against ever writing more in this world. But I have no specific plans as of yet. (less)

Kant, Boethius, and Disney’s ‘Brave’

I never thought I’d write a title like that, and yet here we are and I’m not mad about it.

I saw Brave not long after it came out and I remember enjoying it, though it did not hit a home run the way Tangled had two years earlier. In Brave I didn’t particularly like the way the male characters were handled, especially the potential suitors, and I think that was what kept me from rewatching it all th

"4.5 stars. Started on audiobook, finished as a read-aloud by David.

This is an odd situation where I think I like both the book and the movie version of this story pretty equally, for different reasons. Both are whimsical, fairy-tale-like stories wher" Read more of this review »

This is my favorite book from the Space Trilogy and one of my favorite novels of all time. It is a VERY slow burn, and I was afraid David would be thrown by it, but he ended up enjoying it very much! It's a very strange" Read more of this review »

“You will never overcome yourself if you always excuse yourself.”
E.B. Dawson, Out of Darkness

“I used to think I was the broken one and that the world owed me something because it was whole. But everybody’s broken, Druce. And they make everything so complicated.”
E.B. Dawson, Under the Skin

“I saw disillusionment. I saw pain, bitterness, anger--all things I understood very well. But then I saw what was underneath all that. Those were just layers; they weren't the heart of who you are.”
E.B. Dawson, Out of Darkness

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
C.S. Lewis

“Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.”
C.S. Lewis

“But no one except Lucy knew that as it circled the mast it had whispered to her, "Courage, dear heart," and the voice, she felt sure, was Aslan's, and with the voice a delicious smell breathed in her face.”
C.S. Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

“Suppose... suppose we have only dreamed and made up these things like sun, sky, stars, and moon, and Aslan himself. In that case, it seems to me that the made-up things are a good deal better than the real ones. And if this black pits of a kingdom is the best you can make, then it's a poor world. And we four can make a dream world to lick your real one hollow.”
C.S. Lewis, The Silver Chair

“When once a man is launched on such an adventure as this, he must bid farewell to hopes and fears, otherwise death or deliverance will both come too late to save his honor and his reason. Ho, my beauties!”
C.S. Lewis, The Silver Chair
