Thank you, Lynn!

Real life people and situations did inspire this story, actually. The idea to write a love story between two people corresponding overseas came from my American brother and my friend’s Norwegian sister who met each other while she was visiting the US. In fact, it is this story idea (that my friend and I cooked up) that motivated me to try my hand at writing a novel for the first time. Also, both Maggie and Grace took a few characteristics from my dad’s late aunt Grace, who, in her eighties and beyond, loved to bake but didn’t always see what landed in her goodies... She was a gentle, gracious soul and I wanted to share her in a way she would be long remembered.

Of course, as is to be expected from a novel, there are always bits and pieces of real life that find their way into the lives of our characters, whether intentionally or subconsciously. Both Ian and Emily experience tests and challenges to their faith that this author has either known first-hand or observed. Ian’s struggle to bend his knee and pray for an enemy and what it taught him is something that I also experienced, as well as his discovery that God can completely remove something from your life in an instant. I don’t usually recommend putting God to the test, but I believe He knows when a broken spirit needs something extra miraculous upon seeking him to cling to later when storms come…(less)

Relationship Matters More Than Being Right

Relationship matters to God.
Relationship, not Rights.

The bonds Christians have with one another, forged by God’s grace, are powerful.
His is a Grace that doesn’t seek what it deserves, but what others need.
Grace isn’t a fleeting emotion, but a deliberate act.
It’s supernatural.

Want to thwart the enemy?
Ask God for more grace and then choose to pray for the person who wronged you or stepped on your Read more of this blog post »

Camille Eide "Comfort & Joy
I won’t be any trouble,” I say. Suddenly I’m scared. If I leave here, I’ll go home. I know me. I’ve never handled obstacles particularly well, and I don’t want to go home yet. Stacey will be waiting for me; I’ll have to deal with the wedding and the baby and my broken heart.

“Just a few days. Please? I need a vacation.”

“She’s stayin’,” Bobby says defiantly, looking at his father.
The man looks at his son, and in the glance that goes between them, I see a pair of people who’ve lost their way together.

“Tell her not to expect anything from me. I’m too busy to play host.”

I feel a surge of gratitude. Every runaway needs a break, and this stranger has given it to me. I can stay here—hide out—for a while, just long enough to catch my breath and gather my courage for the next round of real life.

Hannah, Kristin. Comfort & Joy . Random House Publishing Group. Kindle Edition.
