EPIC Reading 8/15/18!

LA folks! This Wednesday I’ll be reading at Stories Books-Cafe on Sunset as part of Not A Cult’s EPIC Reading Series. Jeremy Radin, Nicolette Daskalakis, and Edwin Bodney will also be reading, which is very exciting. I love UKLG so much. I’m glad I enjoyed this at least as much as the Earthsea books.

These do not feel as though they ought to go together at all. The first two are interesting enough, but the third, which takes up most of the book, is all over the place.

I enjoy Beckett, and I respect him a lot, but this was very tedious to read. The symbolism comes across as shallow, and the dialogue flat and amateurish. Obviously it’s a play, and I likely would rate it differently staged. I didn’t see it staged, th ...more

I don’t think Mary Oliver was meant to be read in bulk. Her impact is greatest (for me) when it is a chance encounter, similar to those delightful moments in her poems. Reading so many of them together took some of the magic out of it for me. Oh, and ...more

A really lovely work put together specifically for this medium. It’s not so much about Mary Oliver as about other people’s relationships to and perceptions of Mary Oliver, though.
