I'm a voracious reader and writer with a BA in English from the University of New Hampshire (class of 2005). My latest finished draft was book three (Obscura) of a series that begins with Negatives, which is about a girl who can steal fragments of the souls of supernatural creatures if she takes a photo of them. The series in limbo at the moment until I can find an editor.

I've been writing since I could write, but I really started taking it seriously at about age 12, when my English teacher had us using vocabulary words in stories instead of just sentences. I went on to take every creative writing class I could get into. As for reading, let's just say my dad's biggest threat to me and my sister was, "If you don't behave, no story tonight."

Familiar comfort

So I'm currently laid up sick, just finished a book I started reading when I wasn't sick yet, and wondering what I should read next of my pile of to-be-read, and I keep thinking instead of books I want to re-read. I'm a re-reader for sure; I love revisiting my favorite stories, characters, and worlds. Catherynne M. Valente
“Why do you need that thing?" September asked. "None of the airports back home have them."
"They do. You just can't see them right," Betsy Basilstalk said with a grin. "All customs agents have them, otherwise, why would people agree to stand in line and be peered at and inspected? We all live inside the terrible engine of authority, and it grinds and shrieks and burns so that no one will say, lines on maps are silly. Where you live, the awful machinery is smaller, harder to see. Less honest, that's all. Whereas Rupert here? He's as honest as they come. Does what it says on the box.”

“And it's the wonders I'm after, even if I have to bleed for them.”

Susan Cain
“Or at school you might have been prodded to come “out of your shell”—that noxious expression which fails to appreciate that some animals naturally carry shelter everywhere they go, and that some humans are just the same.”
Susan Cain, Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

Margaret Atwood
“There's more than one way to skin a cat, my father used to say; it bothered me, I didn't see why they would want to skin a cat even one way.”
Margaret Atwood, Surfacing

William Gibson
“I have often raised an eyebrow at hearing him sing, as I push a cart down some Safeway aisle, of the spiritual complexities induced by he admixture of Cuervo Gold, cocaine, and nineteen-year-old girls (in the hands of a man of, shall we say, a certain age). At which point I look around Frozen Foods and wonder: "Is anyone else hearing this?”
William Gibson, Distrust That Particular Flavor
