"Here be my latest attempt to actually "read the unread books I own," this one being a book I impulsed out of a little free library within the last calendar year, because Jeffrey Eugenides.
And so far, I don't like our main character. And that dislike is casting a negative light on the prose in a way that is kind of insufferable. But is it the prose or the character? Hard to say." — Mar 19, 2026 11:06PM

"And so continues my 2026 goal to reread the Anne series. And possibly into books by LM Montgomery I haven't yet read.
Here we get to the first book where Anne is no longer the central figure which the narrative revolves around. This time her children takes centerstage, underlining LM Montgomery's preferred audience and writing style.
Though 10 percent in and I'm only just meeting the Meredith children." — Mar 17, 2026 10:54AM

"It took 4 chapters for me to get a grip of where this book is continuing on from where I left off in Book 1. Which was about 2 chapters more than it took me to figure out who "Shiny" was.
If they are going to do what they are implying they will, I'm intrigued at the timeline. And glad I got back into this world sooner rather than later." — Mar 18, 2026 11:52PM

“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

“See, that’s the difference,” Mauvin said. “I suffer a loss and people console me. Royce suffers a loss and whole towns evacuate.”

“How can you regret never having found true love? That's like saying you regret not being born a genius. People don't have control over such things. It either happens or it doesn't. It's a gift - a present that most never get. It's more like a miracle, really, when you think of it. I mean, first you have to find that person, and then you have to get to know them to realize just what they mean to you - that right there is ridiculously difficult. Then... then that person has to feel the same way about you. It's like searching for a specific snowflake, and even if you manage to find it, that's not good enough. You still have to find its matching pair. What are the odds?”
