"Forgot about this after the car journey last week but a Reacher book is easy to fall back into. Usual stuff, more than one mystery going on at the same time and always a bad guy who is just worth disappearing. The narrator is awful as Reacher. Doesn't have the gravitas.
That aside ok to have on in the background whilst data crunching" — Feb 25, 2026 04:35PM

"I've taken a weekend pause around the 50% mark because whilst the details remain a bit foggy, I know what follows - eviscerating Supercollider is going to be brutal. I am mentally preparing myself by reading romances. That should counteract the brutality to come, shouldn't it?" — Jan 31, 2026 02:53PM

“Yes. Fragile like a hand grenade,” Noah said. “Fucking handle with care or he’ll blow up your whole goddamn life.”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she whispered before clearing her throat. “These feelings we have for each other were so sudden, and the way we met was very… unique. But it doesn’t mean we should entertain this. I mean, how do we know we didn’t just get whisked away by the unexpected passion of a hostage situation?” My jaw threatened to crack with how tightly I clenched it. “Whisked?” “Yeah, whisked. Like… Like we’re a bowl of egg whites trying to be meringue, you know?” No, apparently, I didn’t know. Sadie sighed quietly. “It’s a lovely thought, but we’re not egg whites, Dav. And we’ll never be meringue.” I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at it—wondering if I’d had a stroke—before putting it back. “Say that again in English.” “Don’t get me wrong,” she said. “The last couple days have been like a fairy tale—well, one involving an alarming amount of blood. And instead of a princess in a tower, there was a man locked in a shed. But some time apart will give us a better perspective. For all we know, our feelings are the result of Stockholm and reverse Stockholm syndrome.” I closed my eyes. This girl would be the death of me.”

“What have I become?” I whispered. Shacking up with a criminal. Doing unsanitary things in a baking environment. This wasn’t like me. “I’m not even wearing any underwear!”

“Ileave her in the kitchen because if I stay even one second longer, I’m going to kiss her. I’m going to forget everything I promised myself I wouldn’t do, and I’m going to reach for her like she’s mine again, like her body wasn’t once a battlefield and her mouth hasn’t been stained by lies, and I’ll pull her into my lap and press her back against the counter and bury myself in the one place I’ve never stopped craving. And I can’t do that. Not yet. Not when the wound is still fresh and the trust still broken and the truth has only just begun to settle between us like dust we haven’t swept clean.”
