Will each team have their own thread/folder to report and chat in? Or will all teams be reporting/chatting in one main area?
Ooh, good question, I should have included that in the info. Yes, I'll set up a thread for each team when I've had confirmation from players :-)
CaroB wrote: "Ooh, good question, I should have included that in the info. Some more good questions. GENRE:
ANY genre is allowed, not just romance. No restrictions there.
BOOK LENGTH:
With book length, I know that some editions show different numbered pages for the same book, so I'll say for a book to count for that week's song, it has to have 150 pages or more in the Paperback edition of the book here on Goodreads. It doesn't matter which edition you're actually reading, as long as the Paperback edition of that book shows 150+ pages.
Does that make sense?
I can't speak for CaroB, Laura, but from looking at her plans all the mods reviewed, she'll divide us up - and try to be equal.
Ahh, that makes sense. I was just curious as to how that aspect was going to work. I didn't think it would work if we chose our teams. It would be chaos.
I'm not sure I get it yet. Does a new song get called every week that applies to all teams? Does a team only get to start reading for the new song if everyone on the team has read a book for the previous song? Or if one team member gets behind can the other players keep up with the new songs? Then when the last song is called-whichever team has all their books for each called song finished first wins? If a team gets their books read before the week can they get the next song as soon as they're done or do they have to wait.
Hi Mary :-) This game is easier to play than to explain, so I hope the below answers make sense.Yes, a new song gets called every week on a Wednesday, and that song will apply to all teams.
No, team members don't have to wait until everyone on their team has finished the book for the previous song. If you've finished the book that links to Week 1's song, you can start to read a book for Week 2's song as soon as it's called. All it will mean is that your dance card will not be updated until the team members who have fallen behind, catch up.
No, new songs wont be called early if a team finishes their reading fast.
Yes, when the last song is called, the first team that has finished all their books read for each song called, wins.
Since this is the first time we play this, I'm hoping that there will be new ideas or challenging twists that may be suggested as the game progresses.
Re-reads older than 6 months will count, but not for something read, say, a month ago, because the reader would likely end up skimming, giving them an unfair advantage.
So most of you have now been sent a message letting you know which team you're in. Once you've posted on your team thread and introduced yourselves, the next step is to choose a Team Name and a team captain. Your captain will be responsible for letting everyone know the song for the week, keeping track of team progress and posting on the Hey Mrs DJ thread to request an updated dance card.First song will be posted on Wednesday!! Good luck everyone, and don't be scared to ask questions!
Please note the change to the rules in Post # above. Minimum book size is now 150 pages, not 200 pages.
I'm also saying that cause I was thinking if Lion sleeps tonight came up that I was gonna read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe but then I saw it was less than 200 but it is more than 150 so I'm set if that one comes up.
Hey everyone,Let me know Team Names and Captains as soon as they're decided and I'll start customising your images with the Team Names.
Hope everyone's getting to know their team members well :-)
Melissa wrote: "I'm also saying that cause I was thinking if Lion sleeps tonight came up that I was gonna read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe but then I saw it was less than 200 but it is more than 150 so I'm..."LOL, wow, that's planning ahead! I'm using a randomiser to choose songs so I've no idea what the next one's going to be.
Just wondering, if other members in the team does not respond by the time the party start, how do we proceed?
Hi Juliet, That's a really good question. I'm going to give it another 24 hours before I make any decisions, but if there are still a few people who haven't checked in by then, there are two things we can do and it'll depend on how many teams are short players.
If there are a few teams short of players, then I will join some of the members together into a couple of teams, or redistribute players.
If there are only a few people needed, I'll approach the back-up players and see if they're able to join us to make up the existing teams.
Hope that makes sense! Don't worry though, I'll give it another day, because it could just be different time zones or tropical storms keeping people away. If you have any concerns, you can head back on this thread and let me know or feel free to message me.
Just out of curiosity, how many people here are Team Game newbies? and how many of you have played reading games before?
One other thing to consider, CaroB. In the United States it is a three-day holiday week-end. Some people may be away.
I'm a team game veteran...in fact, our BSB team is in the running to win! :DLisa Kay is correct, it is a holiday weekend here in the US. That could be what is keeping some from checking in.
This is my first but I'm also starting another team game this week in another group. So this will be interesting. I'm gonna try and get the books to match up when I can
Would it be possible to get a list of the songs that will go in the randomizer? That way we can see what we already have on our shelves that match and perhaps start looking for books if we need to.
Lauren wrote: "Would it be possible to get a list of the songs that will go in the randomizer? That way we can see what we already have on our shelves that match and perhaps start looking for books if we need to."that's a great suggestion, Lauren!
Don't know why Susan's hyperlink isn't working, Lauren. Try this under the Dance Party folder:

.
Hi Susan, Dawn asked the same thing in Post 5 above. Any genre is fine. Glad to see everyone starting to get to know their team members! Don't forget to let me know team names and captain (or co-captains if you choose to go that way), so I can customise the Dance Cards.

RLftCI Dance Party
Rules: Using a list of popular songs, we will call out one song each week (approx. Wednesday Nights GMT+10). Players must find a book that can link to the song and read it before the end of the week. For this first round, the DJ will be giving you some pointers/clues with each song to help you figure out how you can link to your weekly book. See the example below for clarification. Team members can all read the same book, all read different books, or somewhere in between. It's all good, as long as you can reference how the book links to the song.
Scoring: When ALL team members have finished their book for the week, they must rate and and give a minimum-2-sentence review saying what they liked or disliked about the book. Team captains can then head to the "Hey Mr DJ" thread and request for the music to be turned up :-) One of the dancers in your team's Dance Card will be groovified. The first team to have ALL the dancers in their team Dance Card groovified wins the game :-)
Duration: Sign ups will open up today and will continue until the 31st August. Then once I have confirmation from everyone that wants to play, teams will be formed. Each team needs to pick a captain & a name for their team. The challenge will begin 5th September 2012 and the game will run until one team has won, or two songs from each decade have been played (approx. 8-10 weeks).
Example:
♬ "Yesterday" by The Beatles (1965)♬
could be a Historical, a book with "Yesterday" in the title or has a character or author with the any of the names George, Ringo, Paul or John or a book published in 1965.
♬ "Sober" by P!nk (2008)♬
could have a pink cover, a character who is recovering or suffering from an addiction, have the word "sober" in the tile, a character or author with the name Alecia or surname Moore or a book published in 2008.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS, PLEASE POST THEM IN THIS THREAD.
