I still haven't finished Irreversible (Inexcusable, Book 2) by Chris Lynch. I dropped it in favor of a lot of others. I may finish it yet, but didn't like the direction it was going in.

HNR The Library Book

HYR Nimona by Noelle Stevenson Nimona by Noelle Stevenson ?

message 954: by Rebekah (last edited Dec 13, 2019 11:10AM) (new)

Have you read The Testaments by Margaret Atwood ? The Testaments (The Handmaid's Tale, #2) by Margaret Atwood

Julia | 11782 comments Yes. 5 stars. And I haven't yet come up with my best books of 2019 list, but I'm pretty sure it'll be on it.

Have you read Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich ?

message 958: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 6069 comments No, but I would like to. Have you read The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse by the same author? The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich

message 959: by Julia (new)

Julia | 11782 comments Oh yes. I try to read everything by Louise Erdrich. The big difference between Future Home of the Living God and The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse and many of her other books is that Future Home... is set at some point in the not so distant future, where the others tend to be set at some point in the past.

Have you read any Sherman Alexie? Do you have a favorite novel by him?

message 960: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 6069 comments I’ve only read Blasphemy: New and Selected Stories and like it but I have The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian on my TBR list for a while.

Have you read Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather? It kind of reminded me of The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse.

* I’m going to look for that book you mentioned that is set in future.

message 961: by Julia (new)

Julia | 11782 comments I might have liked Death Comes for the Archbishop more, if I had thought to look for similarities to The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse. I didn't care for the Willa Cather novel.

Do you make a list of the best/ your favorite books you read each year?

message 962: by Rebekah (last edited Dec 30, 2019 10:30AM) (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 6069 comments Not every year. I do make a list of the books I read until Goodreads started doing it for me.

Which book were you going to ask if I read?

message 963: by Julia (new)

Julia | 11782 comments (I'm sorry. Months later.)

Are you planning to read, or have you read either Race to the Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse or Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin?

message 976: by Rebekah (last edited Apr 03, 2021 07:27AM) (new)

Rebekah (bekalynn) | 6069 comments I have not. I read speculative fiction but is not one of my “go-to” genres, mostly because they are so often depressing of what what the future hold like with dystopia.

That being said have you read The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell? The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1) by Mary Doria Russell

message 977: by Julia (new)

Julia | 11782 comments The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell is one of my favorite books. I have read it multiple times. And I've read Children of God the next book in the series. I've also made it a point to read all of Mary Doria Russell's novels.

HYR Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ?

message 979: by Julia (new)

Julia | 11782 comments The Sparrow is by no means a dystopian sf novel. There are parts that are laugh out loud funny. Have you read about the Jesuits in the New World coming into contact with the Iroquois Confederacy? She based on that, a bit. But the tagline is 'Jesuits* in space.' (*And their friends.)

No, I do not believe I have read Pride and Prejudice. I've tried. But I have read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

HYR The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins ?

message 980: by Someoneyouknow (new)

Someoneyouknow | 8160 comments The Sparrow sounds interesting. No, I haven't read anything about the Jesuits in the New World. Will look it up.

I've owned a copy of The Woman in White for about 5 years now, but the sheer size of it intimidates me and it might be a few more years before I decide to read it.

HYR The Master by Colm Tóibín The Master by Colm Tóibín ?

Julia | 11782 comments No, but The Master looks interesting.
