Hi, I'm Ryan! I was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1980 and since then have written several books. You can read my Wikipedia page for more, or check out my author site at RyanNorth.ca!

I'm the author of the webcomic Dinosaur Comics (that's the comic where the pictures don't change but the words do, it's better than it sounds and I've also done crazy things like turn Shakespeare into a choose-your-own-path adventure, write a comic for Marvel about a girl with all the powers of a squirrel, or mess up walking my dog so badly it made the news.

I'm working on more stuff as we speak, hopefully it's good

Also, they're there BECAUSE they double the reading time! Comics is, I believe it's fair to say, a NOT-INEXPENSIVE hobby, and the more jokes I can cram in there, the better value it is for your comics-reading dollar!(less)

I always have an idea of what a page could look like when I write it, but when I get pencils back it's a surprise to see how much BETTER everything looks. It's the best part of the job, seeing the stories you've written illustrated for the first time.(less)

How To Invent Everything is OUT!

It took SEVERAL YEARS of research and writing, but my new book is out now! It's called "How to Invent Everything: A Survival Guide for the Stranded Time Traveller". It's a hilarious book of non-fiction wrapped in a scifi candy coating, containing everything YOU need to rebuild civilization from scratch no matter what time period you're in. It allows you to make history... better. I really think it Read more of this blog post »

More of Ryan's books…
“Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something.”
Ryan North

“To answer your question as honestly as I can, I've wanted since I was very little to not have to worry about money. I've never been poverty-level poor (I mean, there's been years where I've been officially beneath the poverty line, but that wasn't poverty: that was being a student and living the Student Lifestyle), but I've been in a place where you know you can't afford a better-quality food, where you can't do certain things because of money, and I'd prefer not to have those problems if I can. I sort of have troubles with money in general, with how it determines so much of our lives but with how we all try to ignore it, but I would like to be (and stay) in a place where I can pick up some new comics and games and not worry about how much they cost.

This is terrible; you're asking me where I want to be in the future, what I want my life to be like, and the only thing I can tell you is "Man, all I know is I don't want to be POOR.”
Ryan North

“But giving up's easy. You know what's hard? To believe in your own worth, to know you've got something special in you even if nobody else can see it. Even when you can't.”
Ryan North, Adventure Time Vol. 4
