•Hosting a Challenge

Danie I looked too and couldn't find anything! So please, go right ahead!!! And posting your link here is great, I'm starting a new challenge folder and I'm thinking your challenge might fit in it so I may move it once that is all in place but I will let you know before I do!

^The link! Let me know if you think anything should be changed (:
Danie it looks good:) And I think because of option 2 I will actually leave it in the folder it's in since only option 1 is for spelling the word out!

My sister is getting marries soon, so we are all Weddings, Weddings, Weddings at home. I thought about a wedding challenge along the lines of Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed & Something Blue???
Level 1: read 4 books from each category
Level 2: read 8 books from each category
Level 3: read 12 books from each category
One year to complete, Any Genre goes. (Mix and Match?)
Something Old Clean out your TBR pile
Something New New books you have purchased or New2You Authors
Something Borrowed from the library or borrowed
Something Blue Blue covers or Water/Ice or Winter theme on the cover

I like that idea!!

I'm okay with someone doing another one like it for this group. It was fun.

I remember that one Jennifer! It was really fun and it would be fun to do again...I'm def in the wedding head space too. In fact I just got off the phone minutes ago to make appointments for dress shopping this weekend!

I think it could def be fun and we have so many members that like a variety of things that you will prob find people that are interested in it!

The first challenge could actually segue into the second. It's called Batting Clean-Up and your goal would be to finally knock out the last few unread books by an author you've read most of. The challenge would kick in if you had five books or fewer remaining to get you current either with an author or a series. 90 days.
What do you think?

It covers classic crime (like Agatha Christie/Arthur Conan Doyle), based on true stories, books with a policeman, private eye, doctor as the central character etc.
Would anyone be interested?
Definitely sounds good to me - I'd join in! :) We don't have any challenges specifically for that genre yet, so I'd say go right ahead.

I'd like to host a challenge - not sure how to do so or what's expected.
My idea (please tell me if anyone else is doing it) is to do TV based on books and vice versa. (I'm thinking of including movies, too but would it open it up too much? Or is that a good thing?)
Thank you,
Jenny

My challenge would be to read books that were made into TV shows and/or novelizations based on TV shows. (I'm not sure if I want to include movies.)
Examples, Perry Mason, Dresden Files, Doctor Who.
(The first two were books made into TV shows, the last was a TV show first.)
I was thinking of categories to choose from (mystery, sci-fi, paranormal/fantasy...) or read in one series. There are about a dozen books in the Dresden Files for example. I'm fine with a mix & match of categories or stick with one or two series'. (So, if you picked TV Addict, read all Dresden and then pick from different categories for the other 12.)
I was thinking:
Casual Viewer 3 books
(Haven't thought clever name) 6 books
Couch Potato 12 books
TV Junkie 18 books
TV Addict 24 books
Jan 1, 2013 to Dec 31, 2013
Short stories count (example, Sherlock Holmes)
Rereads count
Crossovers with other reading challenges count
I have a little bit more planning to do to flesh it out but that's the gist of the challenge.
P.S. I could come up with the same type of thing for movies, as a separate challenge but the same categories and rules.

For a period (I want to try all of 2013) only read books you have already paid for, someone else paid for (borrow from library and friends), that are part of the public domain or that the authors made available for free. Some exceptions like for work or school may have to be made.
Of course, no piracy allowed.

I was thinking a mini challenge from 1/28 - 2/28 where you could choose from three levels. Easy being to read just P&P. Medium being P&P and one other Austen book OR a novel inspired by P&P. Hard being P&P, one other Austen book, and one novel inspired by P&P.
I'm willing to host it, just wanted to check in first. :)
Hey Vicky, We had another member suggest an Austen type challenge! I had it on my list of challenges to work on but I really don't think we need two...here is her suggestion, maybe you could do a mash up of the two?
2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the first publication of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Wouldn't it be cool to have a challenge celebrating this wonderful book?
I thought that a mini challenge format would be perfect for that. Something along these lines:
2013 Pride and Prejudice Bicentenary Mini Challenge
Duration: One month from your start date. You can start anytime in 2013.
Rules
* Choose your level, choose your books and get to reading!
* You can use the same category several times unless you're aiming for Elizabeth Bennet level.
* When you've finished a book rate & date it
* Re-reads are allowed
* You can change your books, categories and level at any time
Levels of Difficulty
Mrs Bennet: 2 books
Charlotte Lucas: 3-4 books
Jane Bennet: 5-6 books
Elizabeth Bennet: one book from each category
Categories
#1 Sequel: Read a sequel of Pride and Prejudice.
#2 Re-telling: Read a story of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy with a twist (alternate reality, paranormal elements or just a secondary character's perspective)
#3 Present Day: Read a book inspired by Pride and Prejudice set in present days.
#4 Setting: Read a book set in the regency era (late 18th and early 19th century) in which the hero/heroine is English.
#5 Plain Facts: Read a non-fiction book related to the time period of Pride and Prejudice.
#6 Siblings: a) Read a book featuring a character named Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Catherine or Lydia OR b) Read a book that deals with relationship between siblings.
What do you think?

I have a suggestion for a monthly challenge for February, if any of the moderators are looking for ideas.
My theory is that it is less fattening to read about chocolate than to actually eat it. So the challenge would be to read books where there is a lot of chocolate involved. I imagine the usual rules would apply: re-reads are okay, no page limit, and so on.
I'm not sure about one rule, though. Should the word 'chocolate' have to be in the title of the book? That would definitely make the challenge more challenging.
Easy: 1 - 3 books Chocolate Nibbler
Medium: 4 - 6 books Chocolate Lover
Hard: 7 or more books Chocoholic
Anyway, it's just an idea. Feel free to make any changes if you decide you want to use my suggestion.

It's a historical fiction challenge, where participants read 13 books during the year from 13 different time periods. I'm hosting it on my blog and here on Goodreads. Can I post it here as well?
You can read about it on my blog link (http://samannelizabeth.wordpress.com/...) or the Goodreads group (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...).

Sample List
1. A Solid Core of Alpha
2. Alpha Males
3. Male Seeking Male
4. The Male Room
5. Room at the Edge
6. The Edge of Nothingness
I think your challenge sounds like a lot of fun, but it is quite similar to a challenge already here on TCF. It's called the Progressive Reading Challenge and you'll find it in the Yearly Challenges section.
Anyway, I'm just a member here on The Challenge Factory. You should wait and see what a moderator has to say about your challenge. Good luck!

We also have one like that too, it's the voyage through history challenge in the yearly folder.

went to yearly challenges and didn't see progressive challenge anywhere? not doing it this current year.
Never mind went further down and saw what you meant and it is sort of similar but not very similar not only in terms of time frame but in toughness of links where in progressive it can be any word in the title, in mine the last word in first title has to be first word for the next title. and also mine is limited to their TBR list the progressive doesn't have to be. Seems that there are enough differences that it might be done, but leave it up to you mods to decide that.
