If you had to read one out of order, that was the best one to start with as there weren't any real spoilers in it.
my first In Death book was Strangers i think..then it was Salvation. It wasn't too long before i fell in love with the characters and knew i had to get ahold of the first book where it all started for Eve and Roarke and was not disappointed. Naked, Glory and Immortal are my favs in the series and i reread them countless times..Now that i have the complete set (minus the novellas) i try to reread them all in order..
Yes, it really is a different experience reading these books in order. Meeting Eve and then Roarke as she investigates him and then reading about the development of their relationship and the introduction of new characters book by book is so worth reading in order. And there is so much character growth among the secondary characters also.

I'm still reading through the series for the first time. In order. Now waiting for Seduction in Death . . .
You're moving right along, Lynne. You're 6 books ahead of the buddy reads right now. Drop in and chat about the books anytime though...you don't have to reread them to join in.
I'm reading through in order. I'm currently on #27 which is Salvation in Death. It's an odd one so far.
I was listening to them on audiobooks in order, made it to book 7. My son found a gift set of three books in one CD SET, it started on book 12( not to sound ungrateful, I'm sad the set is abridged) they found 4 sets. I'm going to continue the series with the unabridged copies.
I didn't realize the scope of the series when I started it...was just looking for something else to read and finishing off all of Nora's books. I feel fortunate to have found & started with Naked.
Jonetta wrote: "I'm glad you've decided to re-read them in order. It's a completely different experience."Yes, absolutely. I started with the first one but only because people on these discussions advised to do so, and I was not disappointed because I get to see the progressive relationship between Eve and Roarke, Eve and Feeney, Eve and Peabody. I am sure one can start with any in the series, but would have missed that metamorphosis in Eve's relationships. I am now on the wonderful and gruesome Vengeance in Death and love the friction between Eve and Roarke. I like to see them have a good fight once in a while just to remind us that Roarke has not lost his Alpha male personality. I however disliked that Nora used such sacred religious symbols in such a gruesome book. That would be my only criticism of this book.
I was lucky....when a friend told me about the series she told me from the get go to start at the beginning and to read the series in order. I love reading the progression of all the characters especially Eve. She has come such a long way
Paula wrote: "I however disliked that Nora used such sacred religious symbols in such a gruesome book. Fanatics (who are different than devotees) make us all look bad.
JSWolf wrote: "I'll update my progress after I get back from my two week cruise."Enjoy your cruise, JS - where are you going, you lucky dog? I love to cruise -
I read them all over the place. Doesn't bother me. I put things in proper order in my mind. Sometimes I read several in order and other times I just pull them as I feel like it. No biggie.
It's great you are able to do that. I'm a read in order type girl & like to see the character development as I read.

I was avoiding saying that but, must confess..:)

And you won't know which ones.
The next book I read in the series will be
. I am so close to finishing the series. Just 3 novels and one novella to go.
Sandra wrote: "Awesome, JS! Did you read a lot on your cruise?"I read a lot yes. I read 3 In Death novels, 1 In Death novella, and one other novel.
Nice to get a lot of reading in on a vacation. Sounds very relaxing. I'm thinking I need one about now.
I figure I'll be caught up sometime in the summer as my pile of TBR books is pretty big. So I can stretch out reading the In Death series for a little bit.
As much as I love reading I honestly can't say I would do a lot of reading on a cruise. The airplane ride, OH yeah, but not a cruise.
The last cruise I took there was an entire day where we were at sea. It was wonderful for reading. We had a stateroom and I sat out on my balcony with a book and it was heaven!
Coming back from a day trip and sitting on the balcony waiting for the ship to set sail is a good time to read. Sitting on the pool deck is a good time to read. Sitting in the theater waiting for the show to start is a good time to read. There are many good times to read. You just have to notice them.
Jonetta wrote: "Lol! We are of like minds, JS."We are going on another cruise the end of October. We will have a balcony. The first couple of days won't be so warm since we are leaving from Boston. So those days will have some good reading time in between ship activities and eating.
My mom called me last night and asked me what my favorite ALL time book was (I couldn't answer that…lol). She wants a good book to read. Her only thing is she didn't want to be scared. I told her it’s about time she jumped on the In Death bandwagon. I think she is starting to read Naked today! I’m excited. LOL
Finished Midnight in Death. I am beginning to think that Eve wears the pants in the Roarke/Dallas household. Onward to Conspiracy in Death.

Sounds so nice, JS. Lucky you! And you're right - have to take advantage of all those little opportunities to read. :)
