message 51: by Denis (new)

Denis Pedersen I've started a re-read of The Wheel of Time: Boxed Set and hope to be all done before the conclusion in January next year (we'll see if mankind can survive that long)... so far I'm about half way through the second book The Great Hunt .. I WILL be reading a book or two between each installment though, as I seem to remember book 5 through 10 being a bit longish (although I'm a big fan of the late Robert Jordan (and Brandon Sanderson for that matter)).

message 52: by Conrad (new)

Conrad | 17 comments I have started James Barclay's Cry of the Newborn which is part one of two in the Ascendants of Estoria series.

The Cry of the Newborn

As of page 75 the book is an easy read with multiple plots lines being set up.

His Raven series books were good so, if this one follows that example I should have a nice journey.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Have a great week.

Sincerely,
Conrad

Bill (kernos) | 324 comments I just finished the 6 book series The Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan a fun, light epic fantasy and just what I need for this stressful summer.

And, I started last week Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. I am having trouble with genre-izing this novel. I may need a new category—historical hard SF. But what else you go in this category?

message 54: by Sean (new)

Sean (stessmer) I read The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski and now starting Hounded by Kevin Hearne. I've also been off and on reading The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams and am on the third novel.

message 55: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Conner (eileenconnersbcglobalnet) I have just finished reading the Wheel of Time Series for the first time. I will read a couple of other books then read another fantasy series

message 56: by Ross (new)

Ross Kitson (rossmkitson) | 21 comments I am slogging on with Zelazney's Amber series (all 10 books in one book, sorry, tome). At same time, as is my want, am reading another book on Kindle- William Kenney's A Dream of Storms, which is great.

I cant stop laughing trying to imagine a tome that would encompass all Malazan main series LOL... that wouldnt be a tome, that would require the size of a medieval codex, like Codex Gigas ROFLMAO

message 58: by Ross (new)

Ross Kitson (rossmkitson) | 21 comments That would be excellent. Imagine sitting on the trail with that beauty! Or they'd have to use 3 font...
Mind you it could be a Kindle version with a killer TOC

message 59: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments I finished the latest and, I believe, last in my favorite steampunk series, From the Deep of the Dark by Stephen Hunt, and started Feed by Mira Grant because, hey, zombies.

message 60: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Just started The Accidental Sorcerer by K. E. Mills and I'm reading Harvest by L. E. Fitzpatrick. After that I've got Lord of Silence by Mark Chadbourn and Song of the Dragon by Tracy Hickman.

message 61: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (snugshelf) I just started Elantris. I'm pretty sure this is the group that introduced me to Sanderson's Mistborn series, for which I shall be forever grateful. :) I hope Elantris is just as amazing.

message 62: by Haydensdad (new)

Haydensdad Still trying to read Knife of Dreams got a little sidetracked on vacation. Started out with a bang and slowed down somewhat hopeful that the pace picks up.

message 63: by Tz (new)

Tz I'm about to finish Elantris, and I'm making progress on She is the Darkness but it tends to drag compared to some of the earlier book in the black company chronicles. And I just finished Moving Pictures which was absolutely hilarious.

I love Mira Grant, I recently read two shorts by her in the same story setting. I'm reading The Dragon Reborn, my favourite of the series so far.

Have you read any of the stuff she's published under her real name, Seanan McGuire? More conventional (but well-written and entertaining) urban fantasy. She doesn't make a secret of Mira & Seanan being the same person; she just decided to use a different name because they're very different in tone.

message 67: by Denis (new)

Denis Pedersen I'm continuing my The Wheel of Time: Boxed Set re-read... Finished The Great Hunt yesterday and have jumped right into the next one The Dragon Reborn ...

The ending of The Great Hunt is still some of Robert Jordan's greatest writing I think ;-)

Joseph | 1651 comments Feed: All done. Deadline: About to begin. My heavens, they are good.

message 69: by Barbm1020 (new)

Barbm1020 After some very interesting ventures into nonfiction, I've recently finished The Long Earth, and now I'm reading The Science of Discworld.

Me too. The short stories are Apocalypse Scenario #683: The Box and San Diego 2014: The Last Stand of the California Browncoats. They are only a few pounds.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through Dragon reborn and really enjoying it.

message 73: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments Just finished The First Confessor by Terry Goodkind. It was all right, but agree with some of the reviewers who say there was too much exposition.

Starting a sci-fi called Chasing Cold by Stephen Graham King. I don't really know what it's about , the description is kind of vague, but I hope I like it.

message 74: by Kyle (new)

Kyle | 18 comments finished the engineer trilogy this month, by KJ Parker. Now it's off to cram in Mark Lawerence's King of Thorns before I have to start reading September's book of the month.

message 75: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Finished Deadline and Blackout awaits. Followed by all three of Mira Grant's short stories available on Amazon.

message 76: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 14 comments I'm finishing up Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie. I'm really enjoying it and can't wait to begin Last Argument of Kings.

message 77: by Todd (new)

Todd | 36 comments Finished michael sullivan, Scott Lynchs, Brent Weeks and Abercrombie's books last month. Just finished Prince of Thorns last night and I'm currently reading Shadows Son.

I've been trying to start the Malazan series by Erikson, but I'm having a hard time getting into it.

I've had A Darkness Forged in Fire by Chris Evans on the night stand for a year and haven't been drawn in either.

I've never left a book unfinished, I even clawed my eyes through twilight and the sisterhood of travelling pants at the insistence of a friend.

message 78: by Denis (new)

Denis Pedersen I finished The Dragon Reborn on wednesday, and so I am jumping right into The Shadow Rising which is one of the books in the series I've really been looking forward to re-reading ;-)

I had actually planned to read a book or two in-between each installment, but I've enjoyed them so much that I couldn't wait before starting the next one... They're actually better than I remembered! ;-)

message 79: by Razmatus (new)

Razmatus | 208 comments just finished Toll the Hounds, and tomorrow, maybe, I shall begin with Dust of Dreams (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #9) by Steven Erikson *Imperial March sounding mwahahaa*
