message 1: by Deb (new)

Deb | 37 comments I am reading Kristen Hannah's Home Front.....wonderful book!!

message 2: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am reading Heartbroken by Lisa Unger and Summerland by Erin Hilderbrand.

I am also listening to Drop Shot by Harlan Coben

message 3: by Pippa (new)

Pippa (pippa222) I am reading The Emperor of All Maladies The Merry Wives of Windsor The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Physics Of The Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny And Our Daily Lives By The Year 2100 Usually I read fiction at the same time but I've got quite passionately interested in all the non-fiction at present, and Shakespeare is just heaven.

message 4: by Pippa (new)

Pippa (pippa222) Hm, now see I should have put commas or a return key between all those. Sorry folks.

message 5: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently reading Gold by Chris Cleaves just in time for the Olympics and listening to Dorothea Benton Frank. I read Frank's first book Sulliovan's Island and guess I wasn't blown away by it since this is only the second book I have read by this author. So far I am enjoying Porch Lights but not Gold that much. And this is disappointing since I loved his earlier books Incendiary and Little Bee.

We have a post already for this for your information. If you'll check book discussions there's a 'what are you currently reading' discussion.

message 7: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Not sure I understand this. The title is current reads which is basically the same as currently reading. There may be some people that read one folder or the other folder. In addition, in all of my time in groups with multiple folders, there has never been an objection if I repeated a message before this. And if there is any now, I will be happy to leave this group.

message 8: by Pippa (new)

Pippa (pippa222) Nancy, as far as I can see you are completely right. Please don't be put off.

message 9: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks Pippa222 for your vote of confidence.

Since I post to quite a few folders I'm sure I must repeat myself but other members can just skip my posts if they choose. I am not being ornery - maybe at 65 I'm beginning to suffer from OLDTIMERS. LOL. Hardly!

message 10: by Elise (new)

Elise (Geordielass) | 27 comments I don't think Jonathan meant to offend anyone, it's only that this group has, perhaps confusingly, labelled the monthly group reads as "Current Reads". The thread for what you are reading now (other than group reads) is here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4.... (OK, yes, now that I've started to type, there's no perhaps, this is confusing.)

I think the mods just want to keep everything neat by getting everyone to post what they are currently reading in a single thread. Goodness, though, I hope no-one leaves the group!

message 11: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks for explaining that Elise. I went over the folders and found 4 folders that basically repeated the same topic. I had no idea that this one Current Reads was for one particular book. Perhaps it should have been labeled with the name of the book and July 2012 so folks like me wouldn't make such an important mistake.

I just looked at the first message - is everyone reading Home Front by Kristen Hannah? Maybe the mods here should make this clearer or even answer me. One of them sure made a point of swooping down on me with the most immature manner.

Everyone here and all over is fighting the good fight and it is in poor taste to criticize someone who is trying to participate in this group.

Woah!!! No I didn't want to offend at all. I'm sorry if I came across as too brief and I will admit that the titles for things are confusing. I actually came to this after most of the folders were named so perhaps things should be sorted out better if you like?

What I was trying to get at more was pointing out that if you wanted there is another thread where far more people are joining in the discussion on what they're reading and I did not intend my manner to be immature I was rushed in the way I went about it and I ask forgiveness for that.

As to your question I believe that it was Deb in particular who was reading Home Front. Everyone else as the group book is participating in reading either Cath-22 which is our 1001 books to read before you die book for the month and The Book thief as the group books.

No please don't leave the group. The group's here for you but what I was trying to get at is that I'm trying to make things easier for people by making it neater. If perhaps that means we need to put a specific topic up that indicates what each folder is about/change folder names? Either way this thread will stay I may just relocate it. Please let me know your thoughts.

message 13: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) It's fine Jonathan. I do suggest changing some of the folder titles so there will be less cofusion.

Sure thing. What would be better titles since I'm not very good at getting a handle on things like that necessarily.

message 15: by Dani (new)

Dani finishing up the 5 I have on currently reading then I did my own test of 1200 books. No time line of when just when I can. I WILL NOT BE ADDING MORE TO READ books until I finish the 1200.

The 1200 can be found on my list and I will update what I am reading for it as soon as I finish the 5 on my currently reading right now. which are:

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Catching Fire
Women Who Hurt Themselves: A Book Of Hope And Understanding
Catch-22
The Case Of Billy B

ALL of these I am nearly done with so my goal is to start the 1200 and I printed the list out so it makes it easier when I go through library to search books.

Here is to hoping I can get copies of the 1200 on my list! Really excited to try and go through it before adding more book. My friends are all excited too because I always say how I want to finish a goal and finishing the list is one of them!

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Well you could keep

1. Current Reads for those books we are currently reading on our own.

2.If we chose a group book to read you could title it August Book Group Discussion and the title of the book.

3. We could keep The Next Five Books we Plan on Reading

4. And finally Thoughts on The Book You Just Finished.

5. And anything else which somebody would recommend that sounds like a new folder.

There is always going to be some overlap and perhaps people won't always post in the right place but soon ewnough they'll get the hang of it.

message 17: by Elise (last edited Jul 29, 2012 02:45PM) (new)

Elise (Geordielass) | 27 comments I think for the sake of simplicity, there needs to be as few real changes as possible, just a re-labelling to avoid future confusion. The overall topic title "Current Reads", is what the vast majority of the group is used to, so something like "Current Group Reads" won't cause too much confusion and consternation.

Everything else is pretty much self explanatory, though I'm sure it's worth the mods having a quick look to see if anything else is confusing.

Making lots of changes is just going to piss everyone off and cause worse confusion, so just keep things simple (and maybe just add a final entry to this thread, giving the link to the "What are you reading at the moment?" thread - and for clarity make "What are you reading at the moment?" a sticky thread, so that it's always at the top - and then close this one off so that it can't be added to).

message 18: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Sounds good to me Elise.

All right then thanks for that Elise and Nancy. I'm closing this thread off for the moment and changing the title to current group reads. If you want to talk about what you're currently reading it can be found here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...
By the way Nancy that idea of thoughts on the book you just finished is a good one so I'll add that in.
