Zoe Brooks (potok) | 115 comments I have set myself the task of reading one magic realism book a week for a year and reviewing it. I know myself too well to think I will finish this challenge if I keep it to myself. So I propose posting my progress on this thread. I would welcome comments especially encouragement from this group.

I am doing this because people kept telling me I was writing magic realism and I had no idea what it was. Then I compared my favourite books (100 years of Solitude, Master & Margarita, Fludd...) I realised that it was my favourite genre too.

I have read the discussions about a definition with interest and looked too at the Magic Realism lists on Goodreads and wondered how some books got on them. So again I welcome feedback on this especially with regard to my choices.

message 23: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Brooks (potok) | 115 comments Driven would be a better word, Heidi. I know if I allow myself to slip with my target of reading a book a week, especially as I'm in the middle of writing a book at the moment, it will be really hard to start again.

Mayaluna | 1 comments Zoe,
I love that you are doing this! I have been enjoying seeing which books you choose. I would like to see your reviews copied on here also. I've gone to your site but find it hard to search through the earlier archives.

I devoured a lot of Marquez a couple decades ago and think it is time to revisit. I hope you like this book as much as I did.

Thanks Barbara. I am now uploading the reviews to Goodreads roughly one month in arrears. Re searching the archives on my blog there's a search option at the top on the left.

Zoe Brooks (potok) | 115 comments Alan wrote: "Looking forward to reading through your reviews. Have managed to keep to one book a week?"

Yes, I'm on target. In fact I am a few weeks ahead of myself, but I know I will have some weeks when it will be hard to read and review a book, so I am keeping some reviews in reserve.
