I also shifted from 2006 to 2010 edition two months ago and from 110 I went back to 89. I think it is better to concentrate first on the "core list" - those books that were in 2006, 2008 and 2010 because there is a big chance that those will not be dropped in 2012.

OOPS, wrong post... sorry... I meant to reply to Bess... and her 26 books... sorry!!
I 've only just begun sorta, as I look at the list there are many that I have read before joining the group and getting my spreadsheet. My count is at 12.
About 20 more than me Marvin and we are the same age. How did you manage to cram a few extra years of reading? Did you start the list at the age 11?
Haha, Ivan! I did the math - assuming I don't read any more off the list and I continue to lose an average of 6 every four years, then I won't be down to 0 for 46.666 years - and I have no doubt I'll read at least a few more books, even if it's just to keep me in the green on this thread. :)
I just discovered this list recently. Unfortunately, I have about 5 books on my To-Do list before I can move onto these. I've only read 33 books on the list thus far, but I look forward to making a dent in that list.
With both lists combined (sans the 2010 one) I've got 102 books read so far. They should STOP updating the list... seriously... give us a chance to catch up a bit. There is only one way I'll ever finish this list - reincarnation. Come back again and continue where I've left off!

Funny! I would have not thought of that!
Only 12. On my 13th now, as soon as I have actually cleared my bookshelf, I plan on buying a batch of them to make progress.
only about 30 and I'm 54 so have to read about 1 per week to complete all in next 20 years...not keeping up with my plan so far ..new books keep happening...new granchildren ...any hints or tips on finding enough time
I turned 49 this past May. I cannot begin to count the number of books I've read in the past year...I review books, but not for pay. I get to preview some pretty interesting people this way and love it!
Always have a book on audio, since you can't read a novel while you are driving you can always listen to one.

Check to see if your library lets you download them, or has CDs you can check out. I prefer the downloads because the CDs can be scratched or unplayable. There's also a site called Libravox online that free versions, read by volunteers, of many of the classics now in the public domain. The quality of the narration varies, but many are really well done. Some people think audio books shouldn't count, but I think they're fantastic and allow reading while driving and cleaning house, and crafting, which to me makes the difference between having time and not having time to read. Good luck!!
I am starting off fresh, I've read some but don't really remember them so I am starting over so far I have read 7.

Being able to switch back and forth, and get a few chapters ahead in the car is a real time saver. I especially enjoy being able to work on making holiday gifts while listening to a book, which sort of doubles the leisure time :-)

I never tried e books, I have to look into that.

I have read 7 so far (not including books that I read in high school that I don’t remember). Sad I know. I just discovered this list a couple weeks ago. I have a feeling that I will never get through this list even if I live to be over a hundred simply because most of the books on the list I’m sure will be of no interest to me. I don’t like to read books just to say that I read them. There are several books on this list that I am interested in, or that I may develop an interest in so I definitely plan to add to that number. I also have many books that I have read and many that I plan to read that are not on this list, so while I may read 1001 books in my lifetime, they all will probably not be on this list.
I just found this list recently, in fact I’m pretty new to goodreads as well. I’ve only counted the books that I’ve read in the last two years or so which leaves me with 15. I though I was off to a good start until I read some of the posts here! I’m still young though so I have time on my side – then again my wife and I just had twins so progress may be slow for the next couple of years!!

Congrats on your twins! Don't feel bad you have read more than me, I only have 8 because all the books I read in high school I'm going to read over because I don't really remember them. I have young children too so i know finding the time is hard but you will get there. Good luck.

I've read 15 off of the 2010 list with an additional 22 on my tbr list. I only mark the ones I own as tbr.

I've only read 17 of the books on the list. I feel like it's such a small amount, but then I remember that there are a ton of the books that I've been wanting to read anyway. Also, I only just now found the list. Besides, I'm only 16! :)
The last couple of list book that I’ve read have been quite dark… First I read American rust, which deals with the depression in small town America and an accidental murder. Next up was The Gathering – which is about a suicide and the rediscovery of a families dark secrets. At the moment I’m reading This way to the gas ladies and gentlemen – which is about the holocaust. Can anyone suggest something a little more light hearted. I was thinking hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Can anyone suggest any others?
I haven't yet bought this book, although I've been drooling over it at Borders enough to justify the purchase! Is there an actual list, or did you flip through and count up your reading stats?

It is very well written, very humorous, and very light hearted.

There is also a pretty awesome spreadsheet (also mentioned in the threads) which has complete listings for all three lists. I used the spreadsheet to print a hard copy which i use as my working list. The list I work from is every book that as appeared on any of the three lists to date. Its handy because I can make notes on the hard copy as to where the book is available, (library etc - which branch...) or if I've got it already. Its much more satisfying crossing a book off my list in pen instead of checking a checkbox :)

After reading 2 or 3 list books I read something that is not on the list but a bit more light hearted - Colin Bateman is a favourite at the moment.
I have read 19 so far, but I was curious, has anyone actually read the entire book 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die?
