I'm at 85 from the combined list. I think I discovered the list about a year ago, and have probably read 25 of those 85 since then. I don't plan to read all of the books, but I enjoy using the list to pick a new read.

I made an Excel sheet out of the 2008 edition (year, author, English(/original title), original language, Finnish title, read or not), shows my current total is only 23. But it's easy enough to just pick what to read next and I'll know right away if there's a Finnish translation or not. (Well, most likely I will.)

Spreadsheets are great. I use the english version of the excel spreadsheet using the link posted in the List thread for this group, and it is great! I would be lost without it.

Looks like I am behind most people, I have 23 right now (although I wouldn't let myself count ones that I had read but couldn't really remember). Quite a few of them are in my house because I planned to read them ore because my huband has read them and decided to keep them.

I discovered this list two years ago & at that point I had read 153 books from the 2006 list. I have now read 269 books from the combined list.

I have read 29 and need to get going on the other 973. Could take a while, but I'm determined to do this!

I've read 69/1283 I think it is, inc both version because both have books that I find interesting. At age 20, I need to read 19.9 per year to finish the list. Haven't quite finished one this year yet, though, half way through Gone With the Wind

25 as of two minutes ago! Woo!
25 as of two minutes ago! Woo!I'm mostly reading the ones that I don't think are too terribly deep. I'd like to save those for when I'm out of highschool, and able to actually comprehend their meanings(:
Except for Austen. I hope I die before I get to that part of the list. Eeew.
163 as of today, I have no intention of getting through the whole list, but for now I keep on reading in my slow lazy manner...

I just finished my 109th today!!!!! (And have three more in the house, so I expect to be done with those sometime next week. Sadly, I have been going in spurts. I've just gotten a library card though, so watch out!!!

21 and I'm currently reading #'s 22 and 23 right now. Most of these were read before I ever heard of the list, and maybe a handful I got specifically because of the list.

72 and a half :) i'm only a beginner. I'm aiming for the 100 mark by the end of 2010.

With both lists, 101.
I'm ashamed to say that I have only read 1 of the whole list. That's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I signed up on this website yesterday and before that I didn't know about the list... :P

Found the list mid-2009, have read 23 and working on another 2. I'm so happy I found it, it's really broadened my reading herizons!

     Evelijn,
Evelijn,I see you list Tolkien as a favorite author. Are you saying you've never read The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings? Both are on the list.
Welcome to the list/group!
Tony

No, I've never read them. They are on my to-read list though. Actually I cheated, I listed him as a favourite author because I like the Lord of the Rings movies so much. But when I have read the books, I can really say he's a favourite author. :P
I just found this group and the list, so I downloaded the excel spreadsheet and entered in all the books I've read so far. And the current total is...64! It is at least a start :)

I've only read 12, which is horrible compared to some of your numbers, but I think it's good given my age (17, and 12 is probably more than most of my peers will ever read).

Most I've read for school, but several on my own. I own but have not read several others (I own 382 books that I have not read). I just started reading Don Quixote by Cervantes a few weeks ago.
This should keep me busy for a while
I was probably somewhere around the same point at your age Gregg. Five years later and I'm on 69 of the combined list (62 of the 2008 list and 7 of the 2006 removed books). Whilst this might not be the largest number here either I am really happy with the progress I have made in that time. So keep at it! You never know where you will end up!

Just updated my totals and I am at 43. Not as much as I had hoped but we start our Spring Holiday today and I am planning on being lazy and doing nothing but reading. Maybe I can get closer to 50 in the next week or so.

I just joined this group and as best I can tell, I've read 18 books without trying. I have no idea which list I'm looking at, btw. There's another 10 that I started, but for one reason or another haven't finished. I don't know that I'm going to drive myself bonkers trying to get through them all, but I like that there's such a list of books.

I'd say, of the few I've read, probably my favorite was one many of you have likely not read, Nervous Conditions. It's set in Africa during colonialism and follows a young girl getting an education that was previously unavailable to her. I remember my favorite part was when she is shown a university library and wonders how she will ever be able to read all those books. Appropriate, I think. :)
The new edition of 1001 is out in May 2010 and I've ordered it. Of the current combined lists, I've only read 26. Oh dear ...

I just joined, and before actually consciously participating, I have read 18. I hope to finish "Of Mice and Men" tonight, and start a conscious effort to read the remaining 983.

I'm new to this group too. I didn't even know it existed until a Pen Pal from another group mentioned that Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro was on this list. (We read that for our pen pal read) After completing the combined 2006 & 2008 spreadsheet I was happy to see that I've read 72! I'm not sure which book to do next but look forward to checking the books off the list as I read them.

At last count, 79 books from the 2008 list. Can't wait to see if the number goes up or down once the new list is released.

I've read 99 of the original list but only 89 of the 2006 list. Now I'm curious to see this year's updated list.

According to the 2010 list, I've read 47. If I compare it with the old lists, I think it'll be higher since some books were not included in the new list.

I just checked 2010 list and I am happy to learn I read 51 of them. 4 more are on TBR list for this spring.

If I count books read in college and after, I've actually read 336 of the 2010 list - 24 more on my TBR list. Says something about my boring life!
