Incredible, Dan! You must have read close to 4000 pages of Dickens alone! Incredible!
Sitting at 74. Been working on this list for 10 years. Getting serious now.... Hoping to add 50 this year.

I guess I've still got a way to go and better speed things up. :)"
Or you could just live to 1305 :)

I've read 139 so far, aiming to hit 150 by the end of the year.

You're amazingly well-read for your age! Or for any age!

The other George here-
1Q84 and Day of the Triffids just finished puts me at 288. 260 of those are from the original 2006 edition of the list. I look forward to passing 300 by end of summer.

Well done Ian! I also hope to make it to 600 this year :)

Have you ever found yourself on a long journey, forced to sit next to some creepy fellow who insists on being chatty with you? It's almost precisely like that except the fellow has actually killed his wife and what he is so eager to chat about is deeply ingrained misogyny (with occasional 'it's not the women's fault' but who are we kidding, it is very obviously the women's fault), sex shaming to the point of absurdity and the mantra that 'perfect chastity' is the ideal we should all follow, bonus points for the fact that the second best is to keep women always pregnant and/or nursing. It reads as a rant from a madman and, as such, it is actually weirdly interesting. Unfortunately it comes with an essay that explains that Tolstoy finds the points raised are actually absolutely valid and great ways of living one's life.
No thanks.

Great accomplishment, Ian!
Great accomplishment, Ian!

Just finished 'The Making of Americans' by Gertrude Stein, which is undoubtedly the toughest book on the list I've read so far (In Search of Lost Time was a breeze by comparison).
Aluta continua...
