Kasi baka maging book-signing lang ang event. Under normal circumstances, hindi kailangang maghigpit. Pero dahil si Mr. Stevens ay medyo uptight, maghihigpit ako, nyahahaha!

Maria, nakakahinga na ako ng maluwag hayyy. But I still accept the fact na may mahihirapang maka-relate dito sa story kasi nga sabi ni Angus, pang-matanda sya. So, I am hoping na may legit standard bearer ang opposition for a meaningful and memorable discussion. Legit hindi yong di nakatapos then "zero" ang rating sa libro. Tapos uuwi na dahil kulang sa tulog. Hindi yon "legit" hak hak. So, wala munang newbies. But we don't want to discriminate or alienate those who only find time to attend this particular F2F like sino yong nagsabi last week na gusto nyang umattend next month? There was a girl na active nowadays sa threads pero di raw sya pede this month. Yong mga ganoon, they are welcome to PM me or Angus and we will see what we can do.
Parang nami-miss ko pa rin yong mga thought-provoking questions ng "1984" at "The Little Prince." Pede bang may choice between easy at hard? Not sure about the terms. Mas gusto ko yong "hard" yong hindi tungkol sa plot kundi tungkol sa theme, literary style, literary tool, allegory, relevance of the book, etc. Mas gusto ko yong ganoong tanong. Well, opinion ko lang kasi I like meaningful works (theme-driven, message-driven, character-driven, setting-driven) rather than plot-driven ones. Tapos yong tanong na parang tini-test kung nagbasa ka hak hak. Mahina kasi ako dun eh. Pag nagbasa ako, may scenes na di nare-retain kasi di ko tinatatandaan lahat. Yong meaningful scenes, kung meron man, lang ang naiiwan.
Hahaha, ang dami kong tawa sa "legit" rating. XDKD: Dios mio, hindi ka naman nagpaparinig niyan? Di bale, may literary style question na ako. Is Mr. Stevens a reliable narrator? Why or why not? (Huwag munang sasagutin!)
Kung themes naman, marami pa, pero irereserba ko na sa 28. :D
Sorta off topic but also not really: narealize ko lang na we've gone through the 6 month mark with our book discussions? Ang galing lang. :) As for san pwede mapa-umaga: Metrowalk, KD, pwede rin. :D Medyo malayo na, pero maraming place dun. Wag lang sana mainit/humid masyado sa gabing yun para di uncomfortable lalo na't naka-semi-formal tayo. :)
Exactly, Tina. Maglalakad na naman ang mga hobbits!!! So, dito na lang sa malapit. Hay, imagine six months. Six fantastic moderators. Walang itulak-kabigin. Six wonderful books. Six memorable discussions. Six events that have strengthened our friendships. So many newbies and they are all wonderful people. And good-looking too! hak hak.
Daming memorable experiences. Dami ko ring napulot na insights from the books that I've read. When I read the book by myself lang, di ko maiisip ang mga narinig kong insights during the discussions.
So I think we are doing the right thing.

Aaron, deserved mo yan. Ang totoo nyan, sa yo ako talagang bilib na bilib. Kasi, ikaw so far yong pinakabata sa lahat nang nag-moderate na tapos yours is at par with all of ours. Ang book mo rin ang walang movie adaptation at konti lang ang reviews on line so walang choice ang attendees kundi magbasa o makinig. And yet you passed with flying colors!!! Yon din lang ang venue na walang negative comments. Yon lang amoy sa labas pero other than that very conducive!!! At may music CD ka pa!!!Not that I am comparing. Lahat naman ng 6 na yan, super duper na excellent. I just highlighted yong challenges na na-surpassed mo.

But quite honestly, that was also my favorite F2F. Sabi nga ni KD, super okay naman lahat, pero the Jellicoe F2F was the one na may tamang kurot. Haha. :P

KD: actually, may suggestion na mag-videoke daw after ng F2F, but I don't know if we still have enough energy. But there are a lot of near places for that din, pwede natin gawin yun. :) May isa pa na malapit-lapit din na 24 hrs kaso medyo mahal, sa Borough sa Podium. We can play it by ear on that day, malayo pa naman. :)

nakakatawa ung "legit" rating. i love it! simple lang yan, basahin ng buong buo ang libro para kung hindi nagustuhan, justifiable ang pangbabasag. :) i don't believe those reviews na "did not finish" pero may rating. WTF lang tlg.

But I agree. Also, don't go into the book ready to dislike it. Ewan, I just find it very off as a reader to go into the book ready to hate it, especially if you've never even tried reading it before. I understand if you've tried it, stopped for some reason and then tried again and realized that your opinions haven't changed. May ganun talaga, pero yung babasa ka ng book tapos umpisa pa lang sinasabi mo na na ayaw mo na, ang unfair naman for the book. :)) Haha akala mo tao lang yung book. :))
Maria: Relate ako dyan! Yan din ang ayaw ko sa pagiging moderator. Ang dami kong gustong sabihin pero di ko masabi kasi moderator ka so dapat neutral ka during the discussion. Sumakit tuloy ulo ko sa 1984 kasi na-bottle up ang mga thoughts ko.Pero prediction ko, every 2-4 years iikot na moderatorship. May iba kasi akong nakausap na ayaw o di pa sila prepared or gusto nila tandem moderatorship. So, baka kulangin tayo after 3 years. Lalo na kung magsawa mag-attend yong mga newbies na may potential na pumayag mag-moderate.
Basta ako looking forward na mag-moderate si Ayban (dahil 1st time na tagalog ang libro), Kwesi (dahil bata pa rin si Kwesi), si Rollie (dahil sci-fi) at si Po (di pa nakaline up pero I think bagay sa kanya ang Bob Ong, Paolo Coelho or Mitch Albom).

Manix has promised me that he will be there starting at 5:30pm to talk to us and sign the books. Some of you say that he takes time doing this because sometimes he doodles too! Cute...
We will ask Manix to stop signing during the welcome remarks, invocation and when Mina's turn to speak comes. He will only stay up to 7:30pm. He will also be available for picture taking during the socials at 5:30pm to 6:00pm. We will not tolerate members having their pictures taken with Manix starting from 6:00 except a group picture after his talk.
So, please read the books of our guests. Courtesy na rin sa kanila. Baka may guest tayo tapos di tayo interesado sa kanila kasi di pa natin nabasa kahit isang book nila.

The challenge for a host is to stir the pep-talks and to promote the cammaraderie while keeping the "order". And sa dami ng tao rito sa book discussion na ito, hindi ko alam if I will be ala-Stevens too, or be as cute as Ms. Kenton. Wala lang.

Started 30 minutes of the movie this morning and parang Downton Abbey nga! I think I'm going to enjoy this. I'm going to compare who's the more effective butler: Mr. Stevens or Mr. Charles.

KD, I have a copy. I bought it at Waltermart Makati. I used to see a lot of these in a number of bookstores (Fully Booked especially), but they seemed to have magically vanished.

We will be having Manix Abrera and Mina V. Esguerra on that evening! They will each have their time to discuss their recent works and sign your copies of their books. However, due to time constraints and schedule conflicts, they may not stay all night. Manix will be leaving by 7:30 PM and Mina may leave anytime during the book discussion. So if you have any questions for them, please have them prepared.
To members who are interested to join this event, please send me, K.D., Jzhun, or Tina a private message. Hint: You have to be very convincing in order to get an invitation. We will not approve any request who are interested only in meeting Manix or Mina.
