Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 741 comments Hi Elke! Your bookshelves are so neat...mine are a huge mix mash of mess LOL

Here's my picks for you:

blockbuster The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I've heard great things about the book and movie.

tearjerker The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. Get your tissues ready. I cried through the last 20% or so of this, but it does have a HEA.

independent film God Save the Queen by Kate Locke. I saw this at Barnes & Noble over the weekend. She's an author I've never heard of before, but it looked pretty good.

classics The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton. As far as I'm concerned, it's a classic in the romance/erotica catergory (I'm sure you've seen the cover before LOL). Or how about, Sweetwater Run by Jan Watson...it's been on your TBR the longest.

sequels Four to Score by Janet Evanovich is the next in that series for you. Or you could read Untamed by Pamela Clare. You've read Surrender and seemed to like it (I'd read Untamed with you, even though I didn't rec it as a buddy read)

on the edge of your seat Horror Stories by Jack Kilborn. It was on your TBR :)

Buddy Reads I'd be glad to read any of these with you. Just let me know!

Summer Hits Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. I've seen lots of my Goodreads friends read this and love it.

New release Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare. this isn't a new release (it's the 1st in a series), but she just recently released the latest in this series and from all the reviews I've seen, it was good. And I don't know about you, but I like to read series from the beginning LOL

message 115: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 1099 comments Hi Pollyanna

I had fun wading through your shelves. You had a lot of stuff that I'm not that familiar with so if there's nothing here that you're into, just let me know and I can try again. Without further ado - here are your picks:

Blockbuster Hit: I came up with about 50 for this so this is me limiting myself. :)

Hex Hall - I don't read a lot of YA but I've heard such good things about this series.

Halfway to the Grave - This series became such a huge hit for a good reason.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - I have no idea if this book is any good but there's certainly a lot of buzz with the movie coming out.

Tearjerker:

Room - Honestly I can't get past the description of this one because it makes me too emotional

North of Need - A lovely romance between a widow and the snow god that she brings to life with her tears.

Independent Film:

Switched - she's got a big contract now but started as one of the first self published sensations

Crux - PNR by Samhain one of my favorite smaller publishers. I love their cheeky "warnings". For this book: This book contains devious schemes, epic battles, forbidden love between a shapeshifter and a spellcaster, nosy secondary characters, furniture-endangering sex and a woman fighting to choose her own destiny

Enduring Classic

Mythology - Why not read the stories that the rest are based on?

Pretty Little Liars - No idea if it's a classic but this has been on your TBR for a while

Mr. Impossible - My classic romance pick. A book I often recommend to the "I don't read romance" people.

Sequels, Sequels: A couple of next books in series that you rated highly

Blameless - I loved this whole world and can't wait for the spin offs.

Blood of the Demon - I really need to get to this series myself

On the Edge of Your Seat

Extreme Exposure - Excellent romantic suspense

The Stand - Scary, huge and intense

Buddy Reads:

Summer Hit:

He Loves Lucy - I've been into fun contemporaries lately and this author is new to me.

Flat-Out Sexy - See the cover - it makes me smile

New Release:

Bared to You - I've heard good things about this

Discount Armageddon - This isn't on your TBR but looks like a fun UF series.

Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith Room by Emma Donoghue North of Need (Hearts of the Anemoi, #1) by Laura Kaye Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) by Amanda Hocking Crux (Southern Arcana, #1) by Moira Rogers Mythology by Edith Hamilton Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard Mr. Impossible (Carsington Brothers, #2) by Loretta Chase Blameless (Parasol Protectorate, #3) by Gail Carriger Blood of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #2) by Diana Rowland Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare The Stand by Stephen King He Loves Lucy by Susan Donovan Flat-Out Sexy (Fast Track, #1) by Erin McCarthy Bared to You (Crossfire, #1) by Sylvia Day Discount Armageddon (InCryptid, #1) by Seanan McGuire

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Hello Lauren!

I enjoyed going through your shelves. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with most of what's on your TBR, so any of my picks from that list will be blind recs on my part! If none of these are appealing I will be happy to try again!

The Help
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

2. Tearjerker:
The Book Thief
One Day
Outlander

3. Independent Film:

The Great Gatsby

5. Sequels, Sequels:

Devil of the Highlands

8. New Release:
Once Burned

message 120: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited Jun 28, 2012 06:23PM) (new)

MountainKat | 31598 comments Hi Kami! Here are your picks, I hope you find something you like!

1. Blockbuster Hit: I have a several suggestions here, all new to you, most are books that got a lot of buzz here at goodreads. First I'll suggest The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton. This got a lot of well deserved buzz because of the cover, I mean just look at it - The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton - Fortunately, the story is good too! Next I will recommend Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. The Lucky Harbor books are just wonderful! If you are looking for a little heat, how about Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James. Not my favorite of the series, but to me you need to start at the beginning - I'm a little OCD that way.

2. Tearjerker: I have two suggestions for you here, one on your shelves and one not. First, Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy. I adored this book, so much I literally made a list of all the wonderful things so I wouldn't forget them. Most importantly was how the hero fell for the heroine, it was just so wonderful! Another idea is The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks. It is a great introduction to the Kelly brothers! I wish I had one for my very own!

3. Independent Film: I have several ideas for you here, again all of them new to you - Out of Time by Monique Martin, Out Of Her League by Kaylea Cross, The Gamble by Kristen Ashley and Guarding Suzannah by Norah Wilson. I liked all of them!

4. Enduring Classic: One of the books longest on your TBR is Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I haven't read it, but I know lots of people love it. In the PNR genre, the J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series is definitely considered a classic! You stopped the series at Lover Enshrined, my least favorite of the series but I do think the more recent books have been better. So I do recommend you keep at it!

5. Sequels, Sequels: You have been reading and enjoying the In Death series, so I will recommend the next one for you, Loyalty in Death by J.D. Robb. I can't help but to also suggest One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost - you liked the first one, but stopped there! I don't know how you did that with the killer cliffhanger!? (You do get a nice resolution in this one!)

6. On the Edge of Your Seat: Again, a couple of suggestions. I saw you liked Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison, so why not continue the series with Storm's Heart. I love the humor in this series while there is still lots of tension. Another idea is the Demonica series by Larissa Ione, Pleasure Unbound is the first book there. I saw that you read, and liked, the first book of her follow up series, Eternal Rider. I think you might like this series more after reading the Demonica books, they build upon each other. But if you would rather just continue with the Lords of Deliverance you could read, Immortal Rider. I just listened to that one and really enjoyed it!

Buddy Reads:
Summer Hit: A really fun book that you have on your to-read shelf is How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper. This one is also really good in audio if you are interested in trying that! I've already read this one and don't know if I will have time for a reread though. Another idea might be Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James. I love her books, but haven't read this one yet. I would be happy to read it with you!

New Release: Well, this is a sort of new release... But we have both recently read the first two Fifty Shades books and I know I am looking for an excuse to read the last one! So I am going to suggest Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James as our buddy read!

Happy Reading!

message 121: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 11343 comments Hi, Eimeriina, I had a blast playing in your shelves! We have a ton of stuff in common, which made it really hard for me to restrain myself. Believe it or not, what I’ve listed below is me holding back! :)

1. Blockbuster Hit - For a couple of straight up best-sellers, how about reading The Help, which I absolutely loved, or 1Q84, which I haven’t read but have heard good things about. Or, a couple that have received a lot of buzz – Dragon Bound, which I thought was wonderful and just keeps showing up on lists everywhere, or My Blood Approves – I don’t know much about it, but the author, Amanda Hocking, has been popping up everywhere lately.

2. Tearjerker - One Reckless Summer was a buddy read for me this month, and after reading it I can’t wait to continue with the series – it was great! A couple of other possibilities that were both short but surprisingly emotional are Misunderstanding Mason and One Small Thing.

3. Independent Film - There are way too many good books to choose from here, but a few that I’ve read fairly recently and liked a lot are Guarding Suzannah (and it’s sequel Saving Grace is even better), The Gamble, and Faith & Fidelity.

4. Enduring Classic - As far as I’m concerned, one of the all-time classic romance novels is Outlander – published over 20 years ago and it still shows up in recommendations every month. A few non-romance “modern” classics that you have on your TBR that you might want to read are A Wrinkle in Time (which I’ve read several times and just love), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or To Kill a Mockingbird.

5. Sequels, Sequels - You have several series that need to be continued – You’ve made it almost to the end of Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breeds series, why not finish it up by reading Darker After Midnight or at least read the novella that comes before it, A Taste of Midnight. A couple of other options to continue series that you have started are Divide & Conquer or Passion Unleashed.

6. On the Edge of Your Seat… The Darkest Hour, Extreme Exposure, and Into the Crossfire are the first books in three excellent romantic suspense series that are well worth checking out.

Buddy Reads:

7. Summer Hit - You read and enjoyed Justin Halpern’s first book, Sh*t My Dad Says, so why not join me in reading his new book, I Suck at Girls. Or, Jennifer Crusie is always good for a light, fun read and I’m sure Strange Bedpersons will be no exception.

8. New Release - Susan Elizabeth Phillips’s lastest book isn’t even out yet, it’s being released in a couple of weeks. You read the previous book in this series, so how about reading The Great Escape once it’s released? Or, the last book in a series that we’ve both read and enjoyed is Sweet Addiction. I’ve heard mixed reviews about it, but if you want to read it, I’ll be happy to join you.

I hope you can find something in all this that interests you – if not, let me know and I’ll give it another shot! Enjoy!

Ty | 1943 comments ooh. I get to pick for MountainKat! Your TBR was a treasure trove!! Wading through it was like a visit back to high school... le sigh. My "read" list wants to grow up to be your TBR.

With the exception of the New Release, I've read or re-read all these picks. Most are on your TBR. Hope you like!

1. Blockbuster Hit
Magic Bites - more GR buzz than anything else. My favoritest series this year!
The Hunger Games - just a teeny little book you might have heard of.

2. Tearjerker
Cry No More - the one and only book review I ever put on Amazon.
The Wreck - not on your TBR. But oh geez, I cried like a baby...

3. Independent Film
Mystery Man - the book that started my Kristen Ashley love affair
Raphael - not on your TBR, great series.

4. Enduring Classic
Whitney, My Love
The Windflower - not on your TBR, good luck finding a copy, BUT OMG A CLASSIC.

5. Sequels, Sequels
Secrets of a Summer Night - read this if only to get to It Happened One Autumn, my favorite!
Bloodfever - an epic series. :)

6. On the Edge of Your Seat…
Heart of Fire - a departure from the usual Linda Howard book, but a great adventure read
Angels' Blood - this book made me angel-struck

7. Summer Hit
The Duke And I
As You Desire - such a great story, so different from the usual historical romance set in 1800s England. How about Cairo instead? LOVE this.

8. New Release
Once Burned - When people talk about 2012, they will say one thing: It was the year Once Burned was published. haha! Seriously though, the buzz on this book has been crazy, which is why there's only 1 choice for this category. XD

Summer is crazy, not sure Buddy Reads are viable with my schedule, but I could give it a try!

Wow Ty - thanks for the great picks! I know I am definitely reading Once Burned! I'm just waiting for July to get here so I can use it for a challenge... Several others look really good too! As You Desire works for the July challenge, and I've been wanting to read The Duke And I and start that series forever! Bloodfever and Mystery Man are definite maybes as well! I'm so excited - when does July start!?

Pam | 1048 comments Hi Dee-
I see we are both from the same neck of the woods in terms of DC suburbs although I'm lucky enough to be in the Outer Banks this week. Here are your recommendations.

Blockbuster--Fifty Shades of Grey. It seems like this is everywhere. My daughter is reading it behind me right now. A grandmother stopped me in KMart yesterday and asked me if I had seen it because her granddaughter recommended it. It is both a bestseller and has buzz (I haven't read it).

Tearjerker--From your TBR The Road of Lost Innocence: The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine looks heartbreaking. The last book I wept at was A Monster Calls.

Independent--I see that The Ice Princess is on your currently reading list. The next two books in the series are available The Preacher and The Stonecutter. All the hardbacks books were translated and published in this country by Pegasus, a small publishing house in New York run by a husband and wife--the wife went to high school with my daughter.

Enduring Classic--oldest book on your TBR is Baby Love. One of the traditional classics on your list is one of my favorites A Tale of Two Cities. Another book from your TBR related to a classic is March which is told from the POV of the father in Little Women. Good book.

Sequel--Try On the Edge from your TBR or Rescue Me, both are authors you've read before.

Edge--In The Woods from your TBR. I've heard good things. An intense book Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption which was our school's summer read last summer

Buddy Reads
Summer Hits: I've read both of these just this week and the fit the summer category Barefoot Season or Barefoot in the Sand. both quick reads.

New Release--For a buddy read, from your TBR Love Is Murder or from mine The Way Back Home

Nancy H | 1111 comments Hi Suzanne,
It was a pleasure looking through your shelves, and it seems that we have so many books in common. I could give you many more recs, but hopefully you will see something here that piques your interest. If not, please let me know, and I will pick some more from your great lists.
Also, if you want to do any of the Buddy Reads, please let me know so I can get them quickly. I have the Henrietta Lacks one, but I want to get the others soon anyway.
1.Blockbuster
Fifty Shades of Grey - by E.L. James – LOTS of buzz about this one, although I haven’t read it yet.
11th Hour by James Patterson, or whichever number you need to read next in this series 2.Tearjerker
The Memory Keeper’s Daughter by Kim Edwards
Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares – or whichever “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” series you need to read to catch up

3.Independent Film
The Earth Hums in B Flat - by Mari Strachan – I just read this one last month, thanks to several recs. on here, and I LOVED it. I noticed that you liked the Flavia de Luce books, so I think you will like this one.
French Toast: An American in Paris Celebrating the Maddening Mysteries of the French by Harriet Rochefort – This is certainly an ‘independent’ book that I think looks really good
4.Enduring Classic
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas – This is one of my all-time favorite classics, as is the next one.
Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier

5 Sequels, Sequels
J.D. Robb’s Eve Dallas series – I think the next one you are up to is #8 – Conspiracy in Death
The next one in the Nevada Barr series featuring Anne Pigeon since I noticed that you liked the first one: I think it is A Superior Death. I’ve read the whole series and really enjoy them.

6.On the Edge of Your Seat...
The Quickie by James Patterson. Not only does this book have edge-of-your-seat suspense, but you just can’t stop turning the pages.
Dirty Martini by J.A. Konrath – This isn’t the first in the series, that would be Whiskey Sour, but this is a GREAT read with a very scary criminal. (I read this one out of order and it was fine.)

7. Summer Hit
Wicked Business by Janet Evanovich
What Color Is Your Jockstrap? Funny Men and Women Write from the Road - Jennifer L. Leo (ed.)
