Summer 2012 Rws Completed Tasks

10.4 Hot Summer Nights - Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
I was supposed to read this last year during a challenge between a friend and myself but I never got around to it. She always maintained that it was just ok but I finally gave it a go an enjoyed it for the most part. After looking at the Steampunk lists and reading the actual definition, I finally understand what the genre is.

20.7 Poet's Non-Poetry
Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare

While I've read many of Shakespeare's plays (some of them I've read several times), there are a whole lot that I've missed. This is the summer of Shakespeare, trying to read all of the ones that I've missed. I had NO IDEA about Titus Andronicus. Didn't know the premise, the main plot points...all I know is that there's a band that I like named after the play. HOLY COW. This was seriously the craziest story--people losing hands and tongues, sons being cooked up into pastis and served to their mother, rape and revenge and a clown killed for bringing an unwelcome message...wow. And I thought Hamlet was bloody.

Wow. That is the highest scoring book ever.
FYI, I double-checked the most popular edition and it actually has 909 pages (which I changed in goodreads book data), so you only will receive 90 points for this book.

OK! I'll adjust my total. That's strange though. The edition with 1072 pages is the one that came up first every time I checked; now the edition you cited is coming up first. Guess I'll have to live without the extra 5 points! Actually, I'm just relieved I finished it before the challenge ended; I've been reading it for weeks. And I was curious what the highest-scoring book ever was. Now we can all see if someone can come up with a 100-point book!

It's the same edition -- I edited the book data to reflect the actual number of pages. Goodreads book data is notoriously inaccurate regarding page numbers. Worldcat (and other libraries) are generally more exact (love those librarians and their attention to detail!)

Was it as good as it sounds? I might have to see how many points it ends up with if I go for it next season;)! Right now I'm trying to finish Nicholas Nickleby on audio and a few others before Friday's deadline. I've loved this season and am finding some great books for next season already as well.

Thanks for the review, D! This sounds like a perfect book to read over the whole 3 months. Which translation is the best? I just ordered a copy from a used book source, so I want to make sure because I know the translation can make a difference. It's on Art Garfunkle's list if that task wins for one combo, so we will say what other combos it ends up with.
I just realized that I'm still in the completed task thread, sorry. I'm glad you are enjoying the challenge, D.

Congratulations on the TDoS Finish, Tanya!

I can't find a post claiming this one (finished a few days ago), so I think I missed it:
20.6 – Alliteration (Spring 2011, 20.1)
Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel
I'm a bit unclear on the word "up". I'm pretty sure someone else claimed this one, and I'm also pretty sure it has recently been edited to a capital "Up" here on Goodreads. At any rate, I really enjoyed it and gave it 5 stars, so it was well worth it whether it counts or not!
