message 301: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments What a great idea this is. As a newbie here, how do I go about submitting a short story and when is the deadline? Thanks.

message 302: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The deadline is the end of September Jonathan. You can submit a story to me (editor). When you're ready send me a PM here and I'll let you have my email address. You can attach the story as a word document.
Great to have another author on board!

message 303: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments And what's the approx word count? Is there a set genre? Thanks.

message 304: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's ...Eclectic! Anything from flash fiction to short novella length. We intend it to be like this forum - splendidly varied!

Now where've I heard that word before...! Thanks, I'll make sure I submit something! And btw your comment on my review has inspired me to write my next book. I won't say anything just yet but I intend it to revolve around a number of characters, who each have their own story, but all the characters are linked in some way. I wrote the first chapter last night!

message 306: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Wow! I inspired someone! I look forward to that.

Like you don't inspire loads of folk on here!

message 308: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I thought that was expire?

Just the other day Ignite told me off for saying 'here, here' instead of 'hear, hear' . Oh the irony. lol

message 311: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Not in public though. I try to be nice.

Ignite, the lessons stick better if you berate him publicly. ;)

I always thought it was, 'I here approve, too.' But I wld not dare argue with ignite as I know she has a fiendish eye for infelicities in the wording. Actually, I secretely hope she is a secret commissioning editor in deep cover for World Pub Inc or some such power. Anyway I absolutely agree with your original comment as to her inspirational enthusiasm. So HEAR! HEAR! from HERE!

message 314: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I *think* it comes from 'i hear and agree.'

message 315: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Or, 'Now hear this!'
It's often used in Parliament and calls on others to hear the worsds of wisdom. Oh, well, not that obviously but you get the idea.

message 316: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Really? In Parliament? For one of them to actually listen to someone else speak?

Bet it's an Urban Myth really.

message 317: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Will wrote: "Really? In Parliament? For one of them to actually listen to someone else speak?

An institution with a speaker but no listeners

message 318: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Anyway back to the plot, how's the anthology coming along?

message 319: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Lots of contributions. I'm going to start pulling them into some sort of order next week. Then I can give a total word count.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Oh, I have something for the book Ignite. Do I have to count the words?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments 4000 I think

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Or is that letters?

message 323: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "Or is that letters?"

Words and letters might be the same if you're writing in Swedish as taught by the Two Ronnies

message 324: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I don't need to know SImon. I will want to know the final length of the book though. Word will tell me.

message 325: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Um... does that mean that if I wait until I have some free time to write my short for you (September) that you might have filled up your word count and tell me to sod off.

Just asking.

Cheers

MTM

message 326: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Not at all! My word count is flexible - one of the few things about me that still is! So please feel free to sod back on again in September!

message 327: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Simon (Highwayman) wrote: "Oh, I have something for the book Ignite. Do I have to count the words?"

Simon, we haven't discussed your submission yet!

Ignite, you love having everyone submit to you, don't you? ;)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments She can take over in the dungeon when I go on holiday.

Jim | 21809 comments Gingerlily (or Cyberlily..) wrote: "She can take over in the dungeon when I go on holiday."

Somehow there is something about dungeons which seems out of kilter with modern working practices.
Frankly dungeon staff shouldn't be slouching about talking about putting in a bit of overtime, or getting double time Sundays and time off in lieu. And as for their so many days paid holiday a year, I'm frankly scandalised. They're be having H&SE inspections next "sorry, I'm afraid hot irons cannot be hotter than normal body temperature"

message 330: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Health and Safety inspections are welcome. It gives them someone to practice on.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Darren wrote: "Health and Safety inspections are welcome. It gives them someone to practice on."

I like the way you're thinking.

message 332: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Phnark... OK, talking of dungeons. This is a bona fide job centre ad. I'm guessing Gingerlilly applied.

Cheers

MTM

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yeah Norwich would be handy. Unfortunately Vanessa has also applied, and I think she is ahead of me....

message 334: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments You could fly into Norwich International Airport and take the bus in... phnark. Ryanair would love you!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments There isn't a direct flight. I would have to fly to London and get the train up.

somehow I feel reassured that national minimum wage rates apply

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I charge a lot more than that!!!

Stephen Livingston | 38 comments Is there a deadline for submissions?

message 339: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments End of September Stephen.

message 340: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments What sort of a dominatrix is going to take a job where training is given. She gives the training!

message 341: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments (Does he mean us, Preciousss? Yessss. Tricksy author!)

message 342: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Ignite, can you let me have the email again, please?

I sent you some stuff twice, and each time it has bounced back.

message 343: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Any space for a little post-apocalyptic wotsit? I have an idea...

I love post apocalyptic wotsit. Haven't read any in ages!

I'll be happy to give it a once over for you before you send it off to Ignite, if you like.

message 346: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Cool. Thanks Patti :)

message 347: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I've started to put it together! I'd forgotten how good some of these stories are.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Do I still have time to submit my short and hopelessly inaccurate autobiography?

message 349: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Ignite wrote: "I've started to put it together! I'd forgotten how good some of these stories are."

I've got an idea for a companion piece to 'Occasional Showers' (http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blog...) but I'm out of action typing-wise for a bit.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Actually it only really covers two months but most of the rest has been quite dull (except for the bit with the Turkish ambassador..... Maybe I will have a sequel)
