Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) As Easy As...1-2-3! (April) Monthly-Mini Challenge

(I hope you don't mind I posted this, Lizz.)

This challenge will be an ongoing monthly mini-challenge to keep us all motivated to start, (and then continue), some of the many series in our TBR.

Rules:

1) You must read one of each; a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd book in a series.

2) Any genre of series is acceptable.

3) 'Half-step' short-stories (i.e., shorts in anthologies), do not count.
**For uniformity, the numbering on GR will be the judge of this.**

4) Rereads do count.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I will do this one! Will post later.

message 4: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (wckdktty) Can I make a suggestion? Can it just be read 3 in a row of any series? I have some that I have read the first 3 but maybe not anything after that....

message 5: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3208 comments I'm in and will post later.

message 6: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) We'll need to double-check with Lizz, but I don't see why not, Shannon... as long as you keep it all in a row. Like 3, 4, 5? Or 11, 12, 13?

message 7: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3208 comments I seem to recall that in the original rules said only 2 could be the same series but I could be mistaken.

message 8: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3208 comments I actually have up to the 7th book in a series pending for April. Here's hoping I make it through all of them.

READ: 0/7 (1 each)

1st: Awaken the Highland Warrior (Connor Clan, #1) by Anita Clenney Magic or Madness (Magic or Madness, #1) by Justine Larbalestier The Oldest Kind of Magic (Magic, #1) by Ann Macela On Fire's Wings (Final Dance, #1) by Christie Golden Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione
2nd: Off Kilter (Hot Scot Trilogy, #2) by Donna Kauffman Days of Gold (Edilean, #2) by Jude Deveraux
3rd: Night Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters #3) by Jennifer Lyon Smolder (Institut Scientifique, #3) by Melina Morel
4th: Final Truth (Truth #4) by Mariah Stewart Sleepless in Scotland (MacLean Curse, #4) by Karen Hawkins
5th: One Hex of a Wedding (A Chintz 'n China Mystery, #5) by Yasmine Galenorn Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews
6th: One With the Darkness (Companion, #6) by Susan Squires
7th: Crucible of Gold (Temeraire, #7) by Naomi Novik

message 9: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) Maybe we should just have a second challenge and call it something like, "Ducks in a Row" and do like Shannon said? Then they could be books from the same series or a mix-n-match, as long as it was at least three in a row.

message 10: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3208 comments hmm that's an interesting idea though I rarely read more than one book in a series at a time.

message 11: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) I've learned the hard way not to OD on a series. I start comparing the books and noticing the similarities.

message 13: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ | 3208 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "I've learned the hard way not to OD on a series. I start comparing the books and noticing the similarities."

Exactly! Even a series you love gets old when you read them back to back to back. You start noticing the formula is the same in every book and you realize it's going to end exactly as every other one. If you space them out, it's still there but not as noticeable.

message 14: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) Maybe we could do a "Three for Two" challenge. Then it could be for two months, involve three books, which could be from the same series or a mix-n-match, and be all in a row. There couldn't be more than two from the same series... Could be something like:

#6 - River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs

#7 - Holiday in Death (In Death, #7) by J.D. Robb

#8 - Conspiracy in Death (In Death, #8) by J.D. Robb

message 15: by southpaw285 (new)

southpaw285 However it's decided, I would definitely be interested in participating in a series related challeng that involves going beyond book #3. I, too, have many series where I'm at either the second or third book, and need just the extra little push to either move beyond that or discontinue the series.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) If you put an html code above where you put book covers it will put them in a horizontal line.

for instance:

add book cover

I don't know why it works, but someone on another message thread mentioned it and it worked for me here.
