What Are You Reading Now?
There's a few thing I wish we could do on GR. 1/2 stars, note that more than one person recommend a book to you and consistant notifications.Like earlier, I wrote a review and put some quotes in bold (I also double checked to make sure my html code was right - it was) and when I saved the review they were italic. GR is just all over the place these days.

I think GR has grown a lot in users since last year. Especially since they added that FB newsfeed. They also added a lot of job openings this week (I check constantly b/c I hope one day there will be something that will fit me since they have an office in San Francisco). So, I'm assuming they need more people to keep up with the user demands...hence why they have been having so many errors and problems.
Yes, but that's poor planning on Management's part. I can understand a problem that lasts a month but six?
I think I rate pretty fairly on the books that I've read and it does make you wonder if that particular book is really good or not based on such high ratings by others. It's really all subjective.I'm starting a new genre, steampunk, with

I don't know about all of you, but I find it hard to take much away from a rating because I know there are people who love a book but will never give it more than 3.5stars. Or seem like they hate it but still rated it high. There are a lot of reasons ratings are important (hahaha wry laugh) - but as a reader but I find a review helps me the most. I can ignore the grade and hear what the person is trying to say. Then I can decide if it fits with my worldview or not.
Do you have that experience as well?
When I judge whether or not I am going to read a book I do look at the ratings of others who have read said book and average it out to see if it would be worth my while. I also skim through the reviews (I don't want to accidentally read any spoilers).
When I look at potential books, I usually skim, too, but tend to read the lower ratings (3 stars and lower) because if they point out something I don't personally like in a book, I can check that book off immediately.

Harry Potter has so much more than i expected. it's definitely more than a wizardry novel. the kids go through so much. and it's funny =D
Domino - How are the clinicals? I'm curious to know because I should be starting by this Spring if I get accepted!And I agree about Harry Potter. It encompasses many themes that you don't normally see in a Young Adult novel.

glad to hear u've applied to nursing school Courtney. i def hope u get that acceptance letter =D
clinicals where a bit tough in the beginning. u get some training before hand, but ur still a bit scared cause u've never had the opportunity to be behind the scenes and in the loop of someones healthcare. u get more comfortable as u go and gain more knowledge about the body systems and signs and symptoms. u'll find that once u've gotten to know some signs and symptoms and start pointed out people who have specific illnesses. it just comes naturally. not that ur being rude, u just recognize it. i did that my first semester and second all the time when i went to stores. i think u'll enjoy it especially when u find the area u want to work in.
do u have an idea of what area u like now? i wanted pediatrics at first and now i'm all for obstetrics. also cardiac care is pretty neat too.

I'm a few chapters in and am enjoying it. I like the characters so i'm hopeful. It's been a crazy day, so I haven't read anything yet (that always puts me in a bad mood) but I hope to read after dinner.Total preschool drama at my sons preschool. School start monday and they are just now combining two class and maybe moving teachers. I'm so pissed and now I can't get him into another program because they're all full. I just talked with the director and explained my frustration but there's not much she can do. I basically build our schedule around this class (We registered in April) and now I can't change it. Just frustrated.

and it was predictably dark (taboo erotica, haha) and it made me quite uncomfortable (and angry) in parts but it was very readable and interesting. Will probably shift gears in the opposite direction and go for something light and fluffy and start
tomorrow.

and it was very good, quick read, complex characters and i'm always drawn to the realistic fiction genre. I'll admit, I didn't really know what this book was about the synopsis is vague, but I was very pleasently surprised.Now, i'm going to read the second book,
which I hear is written in Will's voice.
I think I realized what my problem is right now. I have a lot going on and am really stressed (man non stop since June). I can't sleep lately as I am so stressed, anyway I just finished a book I loved. I think (and this sounds dumb) I can only do 4-5 star books right now. If it is mediocre or just a 3/3.5 star book I don't have the patience to push through. So I am just going to give myself to dnf everything that is not catching my eye.I just started

I'm so sorry that you're so stressed. Those times are the worst. I hope that by finding a great book you can escape at least for a little while.

I started
mainly because it has a Scottish man in it. I wont lie, now that i'm almost half way through it, I find parts so boring and others like the sex scenes are hot but also forced or lacking intimacy. This is another book that's gotten some good reviews from friends so maybe it will pick up. RIght now it's a 2 star book...Anyone else read it? Thoughts?
I have to read it on Monday for a group I'm in. I was just discussing the book with a friend and we both were talking about how books that are hyped scare us the most because often, they don't seem to live up to the hype.I'll keep an open mind though. I've read 2 other books by Young and they were both okay. Not great, but decent enough.

You didn't ruin anything. I am very wary of books that get a lot of hype. After feeling like
didn't come close to living up to the hype, I'm sort of scared (on my own) to try books that people get all squealy over.

, a medieval romance a friend recommended. So far so good. The heroine is sort of nasty but at least she has some reasons for it.
I'm reading the second and the last book of the edrisi's house novel by ghazaleh alizadeh. An Iranian writer. It is a great book with beautiful story line and strong characters. It's about an old rich family, a revolution turns to a disaster, connections between people and inside of every character's soul. i don't know if it has a translation in English or not but if you found it....this book is a worthy book to be read:)

by Donald McCaig earlier today. Basically the storyline of the novel is Gone With the Wind from Rhett Butler's point of view and it was a bit of a disappointment really. Gone With the Wind is one of my favourite novels and I found all the characters in RBP, even the major ones of Rhett and Scarlett, are out of character. There is also a lot of errors that contradict the original, characters dying when they lived in GWTW and vice versa, Melanie knowing about Scarlet being in love with her husband, etc. As a standalone historical fiction novel, Rhett Butler's People is okay but as a complement to Gone With the Wind it sucks! Now I'm about to start

No, I wasn't disappointed after meeting Tate, but I will say I think KA is going back to Gnaw Bone in the 5th book. Also it's not the last time you'll see Max and Nina - that's all i'm saying ;)
I want a book of Jeff and Mindy. I so wanted to read their story. I felt robbed in the Epilogue of the first book.
I can't remember them - Yikes! Sorry. haha! Looks like I need to reread Max and Nina's book.
