Marcella, there's still lots of room on the band wagon....so read it!"

I will add it to my TBR list if it is not already there.

Theresa (thesa) | 35 comments Kay, thanks for sharing your opinion on Medeiros. Also, I love Portos! Their potato balls, cheese rolls and fruit tart are the bomb!

message 4153: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Kay...I love Portos too! Their cuban sandwich is delicious. Their potato balls are delicious. And they have this pastry with guava jelly that is amazing. The one I usually go to is in Burbanl but it is always packed. There's is a line out the door most of the time.

I haven't tried Five Guys yet. I get mixded reviews about it.

If you love hot dogs or even burgers there's a place in Pasadena called the Dog Haus. All their dogs and hamburgers are served on Kings Hawaiian bread. Awesome!

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments My sis in law lives down there....sometimes she'll order stuff from Portos and then overnight it to me so that I'll get it before 10:30 in the morning. She is so awesome like that bc she'll just text me & tell me to expect a package :)

Just finished Grim by Anna Waggener ... All I can say it WTF.. What an amazingly bizzare jumble of poetic words.. Personally.. I didn't get it.. Not at all..

Anyways.. Just starting The Chatelaine by Claire Lorrimer

Wow! That's a good sis in law! Hubby works 5 min from the one in Downeyn will sometimes surprise me w/ my faves. Its so bad though, because I really need to lose weight.

message 4157: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments @ Kay, Thank you, today was much better...

We have a few Five Guys Restaurants here in Colorado, but i'm hesitant to try them. I loved Fat Burger so much and it devastated me when they disappeared, I think I loved them MORE then In n Out. I can't risk loving Five Guys and then worrying they must just disappear..
A good burger is hard to find - But to have it snatched away from you...

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments I am reading Lives Of The Kings And Queens Of England by Antonia Fraser .

I had originally planned on reading this slowly - and then stopping to read a new historical romance novel set around each monarchy's ruling, as a way to discover new writers. However, that proved a little bit trickier then I thought it would be. Perhaps i'll try this another time...

message 4159: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished Sacrificial Magic and now i'm going to read Storm (Elemental, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer , I loved Michael in Elemental and can't wait to read more about him.

I'll be starting it in the morning, Kay :)

Wow that's very generous of her to do that. Porto's is worth it.

message 4162: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I can't wait to hear what you think about Spark, Leea!

message 4163: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm already half way through and I can see why there is so much hype. I'm really enjoying how the story is progressing. I had thought (view spoiler)

The characters have such a deep feel, like the author is able to really provide you will so much informations about their personalities without really feeling like it's forced. I like that!

message 4164: by Kay (last edited Aug 12, 2012 11:41AM) (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments You're probably a little ahead of me, Leea. I'm at the point where Becca's (view spoiler) I won't be getting any reading done until tonight. We're about to head out to the city for the Pistahan....a Filipino festival. I can't wait to grub.

message 4166: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am really enjoying Zero Hour by Jordan Castillo Price and Rot & Ruin (Benny Imura, #1) by Jonathan Maberry

Zero Hour drags a little bit in the middle, but the world is so unique and it is pretty darned sexy. :)

message 4167: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) how are you liking R&R?

message 4168: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

def a good read. i was recommended this one in the M/M group. there's another one with some blackmail action that seems really good. i'll read that one next. it's called Survival by Jade Falconer

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Finished my re-read of How to Kill a Rock Star by Tiffanie DeBartolo and loved it just as much and cried all over again but I don't think my heart could take a third read of this book, so I think twice will have to be enough.

message 4172: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Thanks for the recs Domino.

I just finished reading Stars & Stripes (Cut & Run, #6) by Abigail Roux . I am pissed off and disgusted with myself for reading this so quickly. I could not help myself. Ty and Zane are really like crack to me and I am a proud crack whore.

Seriously ladies if you have not read this series you need to get on the Ty and Zane bandwagon STAT!!!

message 4173: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Stacia, I read your comments on that book a couple days ago... I admit i'm a little bit tempted to read it, but also kinda scared... You REALLY love that book :)

Marcella, I laughed at the cover, I don't think I've ever seen a book with a balloon animal on the cover. That's a first.

But sadly. No books for me. I'm banned from written books for at least the next 3 weeks. I went a bit insane last night and frogged an almost completed baby blanket. I've got a lot of late nights ahead of me. :( oh well, at least I can live vicariously through the forum.

message 4174: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments You have to read the book to get the meaning. I've noticed all the books from this series have meanings with the covers. Its such a great read.

I've no idea what you mean by "frogged an almost completed baby blanket".

Here's what it looks like right now, after I frogged it...

It has such a great element...struggling musicians living in NYC around 9/11. It's chock full of great music and beautiful emotion. I highlighted so many passages in the book. I want this book to become a movie, but it's such a hidden gem that I'm sad to say that it would probably never happen.

message 4177: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments I always have mixed feelings when my favorite books are made into movies... Even if I think the movie is good, it's always taints the books a bit, or skews the way I see the story.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, especially around this time of the year when I have to start knitting for holidays, but I never listen to romance novels or books I'm really excited about on audiobooks because I don't even like someone else's voice or tone or emphasis on certain words to impact how I feel about a story.

For example, I listened to the first two books of Gena Showalters Darkest series and the reader made the hero sound like asthmatic Arnold Schwarzenegger and it ruined the books for me. I HATED them. I imagined them as being these deformed hunchback muscly guys sulky around chest bumping each other just waiting for women to come PUMP THEM UP!

message 4178: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ali you are talented. That is a beautiful.

What book does Stacia love so much? I tried to trace back and couldn't find it.

message 4179: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I started Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews

message 4180: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) Just started When Darkness Falls (Vampire, #2) by Shannon Drake

message 4181: by Hayley (new)

message 4182: by Megan (new)

Megan | 135 comments Just finished One Night Rodeo (Blacktop Cowboys, #4) by Lorelei James and Dream Lake (Friday Harbor, #3) by Lisa Kleypas

message 4183: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Megan how did you like Dream Lake? I am waiting on it from the library.

Wendy, sorry I missed your question. I am really liking Rot & Ruin, it seems less a zombie story and more a dystopia coming of age story. I am only about 40% in though. I like Benny and I like how slowly we learn what he thinks he knows is wrong.

I liked it but wish I could have gotten it from my library. Its good, but not nearly as good as her historicals. Definitely not worth $10, and I love Lisa Kleypas.

message 4185: by Jayne (last edited Aug 13, 2012 07:57AM) (new)

Jayne Reading One Night Rodeo (Blacktop Cowboys, #4) by Lorelei James and parts of it just crack me up! LOL

message 4186: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Megan, that is the feel I had from the first two in that series -- good, but not great. I was hoping #3 would be a huge improvement. It is missing something.

message 4187: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 15 comments Reading Sweet Talk (Bakery Sisters, #1) by Susan Mallery and Lucky Man A Memoir by Michael J. Fox

message 4188: by Leea (new)

Leea Regina, Stacia was talking about How to Kill a Rockstar - another favorite of your I believe :)

I'm about half way through, still with Storm (Elemental, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer and it's so good.

message 4189: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I just finished Storm by Brigid Kemmerer and I really liked it!!

I'm off to search for something to read next....

message 4190: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Finished Seer of Sevenwaters (Sevenwaters #5) by Juliet Marillier and was not disappointed. Anything that Juliet Marillier writes just flows so well. There's no part where I have to reread or a part where I get bored so I stop. I only had to stop because I got interrupted...haha

Now I'm going to start About That Night (FBI / US Attorney, #3) by Julie James . Can't wait!

message 4191: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thanks Leea, yes. :) Ali, you should definitely read it!

Kay and Leea, I am so excited to try out Storm!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh yes, it was How to Kill a Rock Star.

I don't know why, but I really want Tellulah to read that one. It seems like she'd appreciate the vibe. And Wendy too now.

I can not wait for you to read Storm, Regina but read the prequel first!

message 4193: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I will Stacia! You know me well, so if it is important to understand the guy character I am happy to do so. I just need to read two books first and then I am going to get to Storm.

I need to read:

Sandman Slim (Sandman Slim, #1) by Richard Kadrey Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels World, #1) by Ilona Andrews

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Let me know how Sandman Slim is. Btw...did you guys ever get around to reading In Cold Blood or did that get postponed?

message 4195: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments How to kill a rockstar will be the first book I read when I'm allowed books again! I'm actually kind of excited about it. I'm a movie star/rock star romance groupie

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm having so much fun right now because I read this with a few other friends and have some other friends who have popped in to discuss as we were reading. Getting to see people react to some of the intense scenes has been a real treat.

We're actually discussing that the musician Jimmy Gnecco was Bartolo's inspiration for Paul (been watching his videos now, he's pretty good). I think it's kind of nice that the main character wasn't traditionally handsome. It makes you fall in love with the character more for who he is. Loring (the other guy) is the one who is supposed to be the attractive one.

Anyway, I'm done now. I'm on a HTKARS high again. I so want to see this book become a movie. It needs to be a movie!

A friend wants me to buddy read her other book God Shaped Hole in a couple of weeks, so I can't wait to see how that one is.

And Tiffanie plans to write another book sometime in the next couple of years, so yay for that!

message 4197: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments How to Kill is so intense. I don't think I can pick up that book to re-read anytime soon. I loved it while reading it though.

Stacia, where did you find God-Shaped Hole? The only place i know that sells it in ebook is Google.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I was gifted the book but I think that's the only place you can find it.

After reading it twice, I know that I will probably never read the book again. If it were to happen, it would be years down the road. My heart was put through the ringer for a second time and I don't think I could do it again.

message 4199: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Gifts are always nice! I may just have to break down and buy the book from google. I just don't like the whole ADE b/c it always confuses me about how to put it on my Nook.

message 4200: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I can walk you through it when you get there. If you have Calibre and have already opened it in ADE - -it is a breeze with Calibre.
