What are you reading now? What have you just finished reading? Tell us about it!"

I'm reading The Killer's Cousin by Nancy Werlin, its a psycho drama with a gothic feel into it. I'm only halfway through and I really like it.

I just finished reading The Magician by Michael Scott, its the second book of the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. I'm hoping to finish reading all six books in the series.

message 3752: by Annette (new)

Annette I'm reading Game For Love (Bad Boys of Football, #3) by Bella Andre it's pretty sexy.

message 3753: by Leea (new)

Leea That's a sexy cover, Annette :)

I'm slacking on my reading... I hope to get some in on the drive to Sac but it's a packed day today.

Kay has me all pumped for the olympics (I'm always excited) but she's tweeting all the time about it and I'm trying to keep up. haha!

D.G. I'm reading Letters to a Secret Lover by Toni Blake , which has been good so far but I don't know how this can end well. The hero tells the heroine his big secret in super confidence not to divulge a word and he also tells her that there's a guy from his past that promised to kill him. So what does the heroine do?

She mentions him in her blog by first name and describes a tattoo he has on his chest!

WTF?

message 3755: by Annette (new)

Annette I like Bella Andre's books they're always sexy and easy reads. I don't like mystery and suspense in my romance books. I get so disappointed when I unknowingly pick up a book like that.

Annette Marcella wrote: "I'm watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and it is so boring. Someone please kill me now."

I've learned from past experiences to record opening and then watch. That way I get to watch the stuff that I really like ( parade of nations & lighting of the couldren). But I have to say Paul McCartney was awful. Sad because I really am a big fan.

Yeah, the gal frustrated me in that book but I still enjoyed it.

message 3758: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I enjoyed the opening ceremony. Since I watched it online, it was the British commentary. I then watched it at home with my family and with Matt & Meredith as the commentators which really made it a bore.

message 3759: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) My husband says he really enjoyed it. He's making me watch it now, actually, because I said you girls thought it was boring and he's trying to prove it's not, lol.

I know! I guess the healthcare stuff was part of celebrating England but the nurses were doing the Lindy Hop which is American and even the pop culture stuff had US moments. I couldn't figure out who the spectacle was intended for. My husband thought it would have been impressive in the stadium but what about the rest of us billions? And why did Kenneth Branaugh look like a leprechaun? His ears were pointy.

Thank goodness for PVR. All I gotta say.

I think it would be nice to watch it with british commentary.... If I got bored I'd just pretend they were whispering sweet nothing's into my ear.,, always better with British accents....

message 3762: by D.G. (last edited Jul 28, 2012 09:57AM) (new)

D.G. I thought similarly, Tellulah. It was probably nice at the stadium but not much for TV.

Yes, maybe the British commentary would have made a bit better but overall wasn't really that good. Yes, there was a lot of production value but it was all over the place.

message 3763: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I had a hard time following what was going on during the ceremony as well. It was all over the place. A friend of mine was in the opening ceremony so I mainly watched it for that. Didn't spot her though.

I'm not sure the british commentary would have helped. Meredith and Matt were so boring.

message 3764: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments my friend let me borrow her lent copy of Kiss the Dead (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #21) by Laurell K. Hamilton and i'm reading that. hope i'll see JC and Nataniel.

message 3765: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) I just read Wizard's Daughter (Sherbrooke #10) by Catherine Coulter , and I'm working on Heller with a Gun by Louis L'Amour right now, and it's small and will go quick, and then I'll be reading Scandal by Carolyn Jewel

message 3766: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Five years ago when I met my husband he told me that he enjoyed reading... but he didn't have time because he was working on his masters degree. When he graduated, I noticed that there was not rush of reading material... when I mentioned it he would make comments like - well i've been reading textbooks for the last 8 years blah blah. Eventually, he admitted that he just said he liked to read to get into my pants. I figure we are even because I pretty much did the same thing when I said I liked the spaghetti sauce covered zuchinni baked in a toaster over thing he made me on our third date .

Anyway, the reason i'm bringing this up is that my husband expressed interest in my reading material today. Specifically the more erotic material that I'm reading. He wants to read a book. I honestly think he's a little curious because of the "book that shall not be named." I'm not sure how I feel about this. Have you guys ever shared your books with your significant others?

message 3767: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) Lol! Never a romance but he has read 2 of my books, one was The Outlaw Josey Wales (The Classic Film Collection) by Forrest Carter and the other was The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King . I'd love for him to read more... maybe when he retires.

message 3768: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Once I read a scene from the BDB series, which USED to be one of my favorites... For like a month after that he walked around saying things like "baby, I sure am hungry, True?" or "there is nothing on TV, true?" "would you consider flip flops, shit kickers?"

message 3769: by Ali (new)

P.s. I LOVE your profile pic!

message 3770: by Kit★ (new)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) Lol thanks! And lmao at "would you consider flip flops, shit kickers?" :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) If my husband wanted to read one of my erotic books, I'd let him. So far, he's only read stuff of mine like Hunger Games.

message 3772: by D.G. (new)

D.G. HAHAHAHA, Ali! That's priceless!

My husband is a big reader but he only likes classics, biographies, non fiction etc. He's definitely not into popular stuff but we talk sometimes of my reading material and what I do all day in GR!

Although the other day he asked me...what's up with that dirty book I keep seeing all over the place, LOL! He was flabbergasted when I explained. He was all like...but there have been explicit books for hundreds of years! What's the deal with this one? I really couldn't answer him.

message 3773: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments My hubs doesn't read my books except for Hunger Games. I told him about Wool by Hugh Howey and he's planning on reading that. He asked me about 50 shades but he's not curious enough to read it...since he has read some books w BDSM in the past where 50 will just seem so tame.

I finished reading Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor, #2) by Jill Shalvis One Pink Line by Dina Silver . These were all okay.

Leea, can you still start Thomas & January by Fisher Amelie today? If not, let me know.

message 3774: by Annette (new)

Annette D.G. I agree with your husband. It not like they invented something new with this book.

message 3775: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay, Yes! I'm going to start tonight - well that's my plan :)

My husband reads but he's super busy so it's slow. He mainly wants me to read the erotic books or says things like, "when are you going to reread Outlander?" Haha! He just thinks he benefits from them.

I know a few couples who read erotic books together in bed, they find it fun :)

Leea, I love that.. I think that's exactly what i'll tell my husband. I'll take care of reading the books and you'll continue to reap the benefits :)

message 3777: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Finished Unholy Ghosts, Leea, where are you at?

message 3778: by Leea (new)

Leea Gosh, at 37%, i'm trying :) My MIL and niece left today and Ethan start 1st grade tomorrow so i'll have some more free time tomorrow.

Did you like it, Wendy? I hope to finish tomorrow. I'm enjoying it. I feel like this first book is really about building the world and characters. I really like Chess.

message 3779: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I really like Chess too. I actually REALLY liked Terrible, lol. He's the main reason I'm so excited to go in and read book two. But I have to admit to liking Lex too (though it throws me off that he's a man that shares a name with my daughter).

The first half was really good, and the second half showed promise, but I kinda figured out who the bad guy was pretty early on. I ended up on a 3.5 rating.

message 3780: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh that must be odd - -the name confusion. I am glad you liked it, you will really like 2, 3, 4 and 5. ;)

message 3781: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I finished Broken Harbour (Dublin Murder Squad, #4) by Tana French and I want to start all over again. It was amazing.

I am reading now The Renfield Syndrome (Rhiannon's Law, #2) by J.A. Saare

message 3782: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Regina wrote: "Oh that must be odd - -the name confusion. I am glad you liked it, you will really like 2, 3, 4 and 5. ;)"

I'm pretty excited to read the next one! I'll start it as soon as I'm done with Clockwork Prince. I'm pretty hooked on Terrible and (view spoiler). I can't wait to see how it plays out. I'm also intrigued that Kane made Terrible not traditionally handsome. It sets him apart from other men in similar books.

message 3783: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Wendy, everything you said was true for me also. I also was amazed at how well Kane captured and wrote the awkwardness of that situation, the embarrssment and how completely effed up Chess was. I thought she wrote really well the conflicting emotions and desires someone who is drugged out (or perhaps drunk) will feel -- the back and forth. I love that not everything is sweet and perfect.

message 3784: by D.G. (new)

D.G. During the weekend I finished Bonded by Blood (Sweetblood, #1) by Laurie London . Ugh! Really weak book...brought nothing new to the whole vampire thing.

Not sure what to listen now...

message 3785: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I agree completely, but I think I loved it so much because she's not afraid to take her heroine and hero down a path that most others wouldn't. I mean, Moning got a little dark with Mac and the unseelie flesh, but really I've never read another adult book (in any comparable genre) that had the main female character (view spoiler) and the one potential love interest not be attractive at first glance. It forces you to really see the characters personality and not just an 'ideal'... does that make sense?

message 3786: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It definitely makes sense. Kane puts herself out there, repeatedly. She writes the flawed characters to an extreme. :) But like you said, it is a way of stripping down the characters so we get to see what is inside.

message 3787: by Leea (new)

Leea Just dropped my oldest off at school, he's a 1st grader. We're so proud of him!!

Anyway, about Unholy Ghosts... I'm about 37% in and I love how dark it is and how Terrible was described. (view spoiler)

message 3788: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Congrats - -first day of 1st grade?

message 3789: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm so glad you are all enjoying Downside!! I love Chess b/c she's so flawed and effed up but you can't help but to cheer her on and hope she makes the right decisions. I love how Terrible is so badass and ugly but he shows a different side when it comes to Chess. You all are in for a treat with the next few books :) Like I said before, you all are so lucky to be reading these books for the first time.

Regina, how are you liking The Renfield Syndrome? Book #3 comes out tomorrow and I can't wait!

message 3790: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am really enjoying it Kay -- thank you for recommending this series to me! I heard Ripple Effect is amazing.

message 3791: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments oh yay...I'm glad you're enjoying it, Regina! I've seen some good ratings for book 3 but I'm staying away from the reviews. I don't want to spoil anything.

I started Thomas & January by Fisher Amelie and it started off pretty good in the beginning but it's slowing down now. I don't think it will be as good as Callum & Harper by Fisher Amelie .

message 3792: by Leea (new)

Leea Dang it, that's too bad. I love the cover and can't wait to jump into it tonight. I feel so bad slacking on my buddy reads.

It's so exciting to start a great new series. I can't wait to learn more about Chess and Terrible.

Yes, 1st day of First grade. He's got an amazing teacher and his class is filled with his friends from Kindergarten. Ethan was up at 6:30am, brushed his teeth, got dressed and was telling us how excited he was. We're so blessed to have such an emotional child. I didn't cry when he started K but I got so emotional today.

message 3793: by Courtney (last edited Jul 30, 2012 09:55AM) (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I'm at 41% for Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane . It's ok for me so far. Nothing too spectacular. I'm not into the weird names and how she does drugs and smokes. Also, the dialogue is very strange to me, but it's unique. It adds character.

message 3794: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That is so positive Leea! Giovanna (my #3) starts 1st grade in a few weeks, it is the same teacher. She is in a multiage classroom Kdg/1st, so 10 kids will be the same and she is excited to see who the new Kdgers are in her class. 1st grade is a huge step. :)

message 3795: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Courtney, I agree I don't like the drugs and stuff, I put off reading the series for awhile because of that. But I like how it isn't glamorized at all.

message 3796: by Ali (new)

Ali (aliciaadalaide) | 89 comments Lees, congrats on you first grader, I'm so envious of moms!

I'm listening to Columbine by Dave Cullen . I live in Littleton, (although not when this happened)and we are about 14 miles away from the theater. So far it's very informative and spends a great deal of time talking about why it happened and how it affected the community.

Not reading any romance... My last book was so disapointing, I think I might be down on love a bit :(

message 3797: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ali, I have had Columbine on my Kindle for years. I look forward to seeing what you think about it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I've been curious about the book too. Ali, I live in CO as well, but we're actually close to where the church shooting happened a couple of years ago.

I'm sort of in a romance funk too. I've gone through a few where I've wanted to slap some people in the books. After I get through my list for the next couple of weeks, I might go romance-free for a little bit.

Working on Inbetween (Kissed by Death, #1) by Tara A. Fuller right now.

message 3799: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Anyone starting Gunmetal Magic (Kate Daniels, #5.5) by Ilona Andrews today?

I am reading Fever Moon The Fear Dorcha by Karen Marie Moning and I just learned that on the Fire when reading graphic novels there is a cool way to advance by panels and have the panels enlarged. Very neat.

I am listening to The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King which is a book I have tried to start both in print and audio 2X before and failed but I am loving it now!

And I am 1/2 way through The Renfield Syndrome (Rhiannon's Law, #2) by J.A. Saare which I am loving -- its sequel is being released today. The Ripple Effect (Rhiannon's Law, #3) by J.A. Saare

message 3800: by Julie (new)

Julie (gpangel) I'm reading Winning the Wallflower A Novella (Fairy Tales, #2.5) by Eloisa James
