Thanks. I just finished Pretty When She Kills (Pretty When She Dies, #2) by Rhiannon Frater and will pick up Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs later this afternoon. It's Lunar New Yr today and I'm off to my cousin's house to celebrate with family. I hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Regina (reginar) How did you like Pretty When She Kills? As good as the first?

message 7054: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've just finished The Divide by Nicholas Evans by Nicholas Evans and Plum Lovin' (Stephanie Plum, #12.5) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich.

The Divide started off so well but the plot did get quite slow halfway through the book. I did wish it would speed up at times but the story did remain strangely engaging. The last 60 or 70 pages of the novel were just as gripping and compelling as the first half of the novel. To tell the truth, I enjoyed the family drama sub-plot a lot more than I liked the murder mystery plot but I think that was probably because I didn't like the character of Abbie all that much so I found it hard to care about what happened to her. I loved all the vivid and wonderful descriptions of the Montana setting and landscape that made me feel like I was actually there. Nicholas Evans has got a great writing style and I love his use of language and imagery. I gave this novel 3½ stars!
My full review can be found here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I love all the regular Stephanie Plum novels but I'm not sure I like these between the numbers novellas. I was very disappointed by Plum Lovin'. Nothing much happened in it and it was extremely dull and boring. It wasn't anywhere near as funny as the regular novels do be and I really hate the supernatural element in the novella. I gave it 1½ stars!
My review can be found here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Now I'm a few chapters into The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly by Jennifer Donnelly.

Regina (reginar) I am not liking Garden of Stones by Sophie Littlefield . I am 25% in so I am giving up.

I am actually not reading anything right now. I need to do valentines with the kids and we are having such a crazy busy weekend. I need to look at my arc list to see what book is up next.

Leea, where did you leave off?

message 7057: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ellie I agree about the in-betweens, also around 13-14 was when I gave up on the series. I'll be interested to see what you think.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina wrote: "How did you like Pretty When She Kills? As good as the first?"

I liked the first one a lot more which seemed to be grittier than the 2nd. Also, I felt like there were too many characters to keep track of in the 2nd book also. I can't remember if that was the case in book one. Overall, it was a decent UF but it didn't blow me away.

Just a few chapters into it. I may skip Hunting Ground like we talked about and move onto Fair Game.

In fact Kay, let me know when you want to read it and I may join you.

If you ever end up reading book 2, you'll have to let me know what you thought. I've only read the first but wasn't sure if I'd continue.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Anyway, I finished Never Seduce a Scot (The Montgomerys and Armstrongs, #1) by Maya Banks and it was sweet. I appreciated that the author wrote about a deaf woman from her own personal experience with her husband's hearing loss.

Started Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1) by Kasie West and will be starting Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle tomorrow.

Regina (reginar) So I really need to choose something new to listen to. I think I am reading American Elsewhere by Robert Jackson Bennett but I haven't started yet.

message 7065: by Leea (last edited Feb 11, 2013 09:36AM) (new)

Leea Happy Monday!!

I'm in such a slump right now... I have not motivation to read and there is so much to do around my house. I hate this feeling, like it's all pilling on me and I don't have time to read which is my little thing I give myself. We've got basketball starting and just got a call from my older sons baseball coach, who's suposed to be amazing but they practice a lot. My husband is coaching Garrett's Tball team because he does not want anyone to no be able to understand him and give him a hard time. I'm glad but it means 2 kids, 2 different practices and 2 different game schedule. lol! So, more shuffling kids around. In the last week, we've added 5 events to our weekly schedule. Sorry, that turned into a rant...

Stacia, Sins and Needles looks so good. I can't wait to hear what you think and read it myself. You'll have to read Bank's other Highlander books, they're all good. I almost think the first series is better.

Hey Leea...I just started Hunting Ground and I have to read 2 more Mercy books. So, I'm thinking next week or the week after Fair Game. I'll touch base with you before I do to see how your mood is.

So far, I'm loving the dynamic between Charles and Anna in Hunting Ground. I forgot how opposite they are from one another but yet they balance each other out as well.

Regina...can you remind me about Cry Wolf (view spoiler)

message 7067: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Wow, Leea....sounds busy. I have my older son in basketball now and tball is starting next week. I can't imagine how it will be when my little one starts sports too.

Reading slumps are the worst. I totally feel you there as I have several of those in a month. LOL

message 7068: by Regina (last edited Feb 11, 2013 10:03AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Kay all of that is in the novella pre-quel, which is a great and quick read -I have read it a few times. I love it! Cry Wolf was more of them continuing to work out their bond, they were already bonded before Cry Wolf. Alpha & Omega A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #0.5) by Patricia Briggs . (view spoiler) Does that help?

message 7069: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh, thanks for the refresher, Regina.

Yes, i'd love to join you next week Kay. Let me know when you want to read it. Thanks!

Thanks, Regina! That helps. I read the short story about 3 years ago...maybe I should skim through it again. I seem to have bad memory sometimes. I think b/c I read so much and everything just blends or blur together after awhile. LOL

message 7071: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL -- I completely get that. It stuck out to me b/c Anna lived in the subub I live in now and her pack lived in the suburb that I used to live in! I guess Patricia Briggs used to live in Chicago.

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 231 comments finished Defying Pack Law (Pack, #1) by Eve Langlais and i just loved it. the plot was great. it had emotions and humor and tons of sexiness. wish i had the rest in the series =(
i'll start
Longing for Kayla by Lauren Fraser next.

message 7073: by Regina (new)

Caitlyn (caitlynj) I'm reading Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre , and it is really good!

message 7076: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs and I loved it. I really enjoy the way Patricia Briggs displays Anna & Charles' newly mated relationship and all of its struggles, adaptation, awkwardness, love, etc. I will most likely start Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs next.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Caitlyn wrote: "I'm reading Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre, and it is really good!"

I really enjoyed this book. Unfortunately, I haven't read any further into the series.

message 7078: by Leea (new)

Leea I also really enjoyed Grimspace but haven't read the next book. I hope to one day ;)

I just finished The New Hunger (Warm Bodies, #0.5) by Isaac Marion and it had me wishing the next Warm Bodies book. This was short, 140 pages but so good.

Now I want to dive back into In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French

I'm also searching for my next Urban Fantasy series to read, any suggestions?

message 7079: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Silver Bourne is such a beautiful writing of Adam and Mercy's relationship. :)

You have inspired me, I am doing a reread of Fair Game by listening to it.

Enjoy listening to A & O...I really like these two and how they balance one another.

You've read most of the UFs I've read. I will suggest
Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between (Rhiannon's Law, #1) by J.A. Saare . I just love this author's writing style. I also really liked The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams which reminds me I still need to read the 2nd book. Another two that I enjoyed was Love is Darkness (Valerie Dearborn, #1) by Caroline Hanson and Pretty When She Dies (Pretty When She Dies, #1) by Rhiannon Frater .

message 7082: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) We were talking about starting Pretty When She Dies...

Kay, since u really enjoyed Hunting Ground u'll love Fair Game (Alpha & Omega, #3) by Patricia Briggs . Anna becomes a bit more aggressive and possesive over Charles cause he puts some distance between them. it's for a reason, but u'll really love the outcome. i totally loved it =D

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea wrote: "Thanks Kay! We loved Fraters end of Days series. She's an amazing writer.

I liked book 1 better b/c it was grittier to me. Also, there were so many POVs in book 2 where it was hard for me to connect to the characters like I did in 1. It was still fun revisiting that world though. Some things happen in 2 where I can see how the different characters will fit into future books.

Thanks, Domino! I'm looking forward to it. I still have to read Silver Borne (Mercedes Thompson, #5) by Patricia Briggs and River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs before I can dive into to Anna & Charles again. I can't wait!

message 7087: by Leea (new)

Leea I decided to start Hunting Ground (Alpha & Omega, #2) by Patricia Briggs again and I think the reason I had to stop last time was because I had read all the Mercy books and then jumped into A & O and I got burnt out. I'm already 15% and I missed Anna and Charles so much.

I do have a question because it's been so long since I read Cry Wolf (view spoiler)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Kay, I already had Renfield on my list for this month. I also have Elemental Assassin book 1. Shadow Reader's book 2 is on my list for March. I hope you get a chance to read it so we can discuss!

message 7089: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I read up to Elemental #4. I still need to get to 5. I actually enjoy this series so far but be warned that she is descriptively repetitive, if that makes sense. You will get lots of it about color of eyes and her knives.

Let me know when you read Shadow Reader #2. I will make sure to get to it so we can discuss!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I know that the repetitiveness is a big complaint from fans of that series. I've already experienced it with her Mythos Academy series but I enjoyed the books quite a bit, even with that problem.

I'm not sure exactly when I'm read the second McKenzie Lewis book yet, but I'll let you know. I just know that it will be sometime in March.

message 7091: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Well, good thing you're use to her writing style then. I will need to get to the Mythos Academy since your reviews are so convincing ;)

Just let me know a few days before you start McKenzie and I'll squeeze it in. I really liked book #1 and I hope the 2nd one is just as good.
