Chantilly White (Chantilly_White) | 13 comments Hi, everyone! I'm very new to the group, so I hope it's okay if I just jump into the middle here to say what I'm reading and enjoying. :)

It's "Waking Up Married" by Mira Lyn Kelly, and I'm having serious trouble putting it down. It's a contemporary romance, sort of "What Happened In Vegas" but fresh and fun and I particularly like the fact that her alpha hero is not also a *jerk.* I've read way too many novels where alpha has become synonymous with jerk, at least until the fabulous heroine manages to change him for the better. I always come away wondering why she stayed with him so long in the first place, I sure wouldn't have.

But the hero in Waking Up Married, Connor, is just a strong, take-charge sort of guy without the jerk factor. He knows what he wants (her) and goes after her, but he's charming and likable about it throughout.

On top of the awesome hero, the heroine, Megan, is equally enjoyable. She's a strong woman who doesn't put up only a token resistance and then roll over and give the hero his way. She's making him work for her (for good reasons, not just to be difficult or bitchy for the sake of creating false conflict--I've found them both very likable!), and I respect her more because of it. I haven't finished it yet, but so far, at least, this is one for my keeper shelf.

:)

Regina (reginar) I am loving Fire Baptized (Habitat, #1) by Kenya Wright LOVING it. And I have been off of UF for awhile. But this is getting me back in my UF groove. I already bought the sequel.

message 6954: by Leea (new)

Leea Nothing like a good UF!!!! I need to read another one soon :)

Chantilly, jump in anywhere. Anytime. Welcome! I've seen that book moving around GR, so I'll have to check it out. Love alpha males who don't boss women around.

Thank, Kay! I'm at 75%... Hope to finish later this afternoon.

message 6955: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Leea...I'm 71%. Gah...my heart aches for this couple. I hope to finish today. I'm packing this morning as we're heading out to Lake Tahoe today for 4 days. We rented a cabin w 4 other families. It will be chaotic but looking forward to watching the Superbowl with hard core 9er fans.

message 6956: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Chantilly, I also have seen that book around. The KISS line is a new one by Harlequin. I read another book in that line How To Get Over Your Ex by Nikki Logan and it was ok. It read more like chick lit and lacked the steam I needed. Was Waking Up Married steamy?

message 6957: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I finished Fire Baptized (Habitat, #1) by Kenya Wright and loved it. This book should be picked up by a mainstream publisher. I am deciding if I should read The Burning Bush (Habitat, #2) by Kenya Wright or Silver by Rhiannon Held

I finished listening to Outpost (Razorland, #2) by Ann Aguirre and really liked it. This is my 2nd favorite series of this author after Sirantha Jax. I am reading a short in this series Endurance (Razorland, #1.5) by Ann Aguirre and I started to listen to The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Looks like we might have some sock puppeting going on here.

message 6959: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yup. Just going about my own business thought. :D

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Same two posts popped up in the YA group. Private profiles...

I'll hold and see what happens.

Regina (reginar) It is so irritating. It distrupts the flow here and makes people likely to unsubscribe from this thread and not pop back in.

I have been hearing buzz about Sins & Needles (The Artists Trilogy, #1) by Karina Halle

I've been hearing a lot of buzz about that one, too! It looks pretty good.

message 6966: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck by John Steinbeck. The Grapes of Wrath is a beautifully written but extremely moving and heartbreaking novel with interesting, realistic and well-developed characters. I love John Steinbeck's wonderful writing style. I just loved his fantastic vivid descriptions of the landscape and the people. At times the descriptions of the barren landscape and the appalling conditions the family have to put up with is very depressing. I wanted to put the book down sometimes due to this but I'm glad a persevered through and finished the novel. This novel well deserved the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction it won in 1940 and it really is a masterpiece of 20th Century literature. It is definitely a must read! Four stars!

Now I'm about to start on The Divide by Nicholas Evans by Nicholas Evans.

I missed you first comment. Yes, it IS a hot cover!

message 6968: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Francesca, what did you think of DarkFever?

I got sucked into the If I Were You (Inside Out Trilogy, #1) by Lisa Renee Jones last year - IMO, a more grown-up and better written version of FSOG. Anyway, Rebecca’s Lost Journals, Volume 1 The Seduction (INSIDE OUT TRILOGY) by Lisa Renee Jones just came out for 99-cents. Not so sure about this - looks like 5 volumes in all? But hey, what can I say? I got sucked in and now I have to read it.

Also trying a new slant on the mystery/recipe thing with Liver Let Die (A Clueless Cook Mystery, #1) by Liz Lipperman . It's slow-going, though. I think I'm distracted by all the great titles flying by here and on my feed. Especially Under His Command by Kristine Cayne , Among the Living (PsyCop, #1) by Jordan Castillo Price , and freebies like A Secure Heart by Charity Parkerson .

Way too many books on my TBR shelf! And so many others that I haven't heard of until I see threads like this one!

message 6969: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I love Psycop so much. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) ...and again with post 7019

It went off the rails a bit in the YA group. Haven't responded yet, but I'll probably take the advice and flag for now.

I got this one free from allromance.com when they were having their 12 days of free books before Christmas. I am glad you liked it!

Chantilly White (Chantilly_White) | 13 comments Thanks, Leea!

Kay, that's so funny that you mentioned the new line, I didn't even realize it was a Harlequin until I finished it last night and saw their ad at the end. Steamy... Hmm. It wasn't behind-closed-doors but I don't know if I would call it steamy. I'd call it good but fairly tame, but my judgment might be a little skewed since I write pretty steamy myself (not erotic, but getting closer to that line) and have been reading more erotic romance lately.

I also have to admit that while I *really* liked the book, the second half fell off a bit for me. It was still very good, but as the conflict dragged out I started feeling a little impatient with the two of them. Nothing that was a deal-breaker, just little bits here and there. But overall, it was very enjoyable, the characters were well-drawn, and it was a good, fun read. I'd recommend it.

Regina, I hope you like it, as well!

:)

Leea I have like 3% left of Sing My Name by Ellen O'Connell and I have to make the crew dinner... Ohhhh, I want to know what happens so bad. LOL!

message 6975: by Angie Elle (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments Let them fend for themselves, Leea! 3% is too little to walk away from! LOL

message 6976: by Leea (new)

Leea They're all cranky and it's Taco night. Trust me i'm abandoning them right after dinner to run off and hide somewhere and finish. haha!

LOL! Ok...I'd be desperate for tacos, too!

Regina (reginar) I am always desperate for tacos. :)

So I chose Silver by Rhiannon Held it is the first print library book I have read in a long time -- which is hard to adjust to. I just don't want to buy the ebook ($9.99). I am really liking it, maybe I am on a UF kick. :)

And The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper is funny and light.

message 6979: by Leea (new)

Leea Me too...

I finished Sing My Name by Ellen O'Connell and it was so very good. I'm starting to just love this author.

Now I need a change, I want to read In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French next.

message 6980: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Feb 02, 2013 01:54AM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Just finished Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1) by Sarah Fine and loved it. The book reminded me a lot of The Dark Light by Sara Walsh , except I liked Sanctum even better.

Since not everyone has read those books, I'll describe the atmosphere as a dark fantasy vibe. Fans of Angelfall would probably like this one because it has some of the same horror, action and morbid themes going on, but Sanctum has more romance, so it's an interesting mix.

message 6981: by Angie Elle (last edited Feb 02, 2013 09:26AM) (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 602 comments I'm reading Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard, #1) by Christina Lauren next.

message 6982: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Sanctum looks really good. I don't think I can fit it in now, but I really like the set-up!

message 6983: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes, I added that book to my TBR list. It looks really good. I might be able to fit it in in a few weeks. I just got several books approved from netgalley. Now I need to make sure and read them. Lol!

Wendy, when do you want to read Gina/max & jones/Molly's book? Getting anxious!!!

Oh, I'm 6% into in the woods and I'm really enjoying how this story is unfolding, I mean I can see what takes place is going to be something big but right now in totally in the dark.

message 6984: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm gonna finish Easy tomorrow, so how about tomorrow evening or Monday morning?

message 6985: by Beth (new)

Beth Michele (bethmichelewriter) | 4 comments LOVED Easy.... :)

message 6986: by Leea (new)

Leea Might be able to do Monday, I still have a lot to read of in the woods. How did you like easy?

message 6987: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Monday works for me too.

I'm liking it a lot. A lot more than the Between the Lines.

message 6988: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It is so good.

message 6989: by Leea (new)

Leea Yes! I loved easy! So very much. Another book that Stacia turned me on to.

message 6990: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am pushing through audio books fast right now.

I finished The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper and had fun with it. Nothing amazing, but sweet and fun.

I am now listening to Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed and am enjoying it. I am missing hiking and running outside and this book inspired me so I just bought some cold weather running pants and a shirt.

I am still really enjoying Silver by Rhiannon Held in a way it is similar to how Briggs writes pack dynamics, but from the POV of a male but that doesn't do it justice. There is a strong pull between the main male and female werewolves. It is slighlty under 4 stars, but am so happy I am reading it. It is good -- and refreshing.

message 6991: by Leea (new)

Leea Happy Monday!

I'm still reading In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French but I had to jump at the change to set that aside for now (going back to eagerly after :) and read Max/Gina and Jones/Molly's book, Breaking Point (Troubleshooters, #9) by Suzanne Brockmann . I'm so excited to read Max all hot and bothered for the much younger Gina - Yay!!!

message 6992: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) yes, yes, yes! haha, I love those two couples. :D

message 6993: by Leea (new)

Leea Finally got a better version of this book... now I'm ready to dive into these characters.

Regina, it looks like there are 15 books, does Brockmann have any idea how many will be in the whole series?

message 6994: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Breaking the Rules (Troubleshooters, #16) by Suzanne Brockmann -- 16, there are actuallly 16 and then some short stories. :)

When Tony Met Adam (Troubleshooters, #12.5) by Suzanne Brockmann Headed for Trouble (Troubleshooters #16.5) by Suzanne Brockmann

She is writing right now, but no indication as to whether it is a TS book or not.

message 6995: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm always quoting you the wrong numbers in a series, Regina. haha!

message 6996: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Lol!!

message 6997: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Last Friday, I finished Sing My Name by Ellen O'Connell which was great. I love how the title fit into the story. Very sweet. I really like this author and I'm glad to connect with her writing as there's only a handful of historical western authors that can do that for me.

I saw Return to Sender by Fern Michaels at CVS yesterday and decided to give it a shot since I see her books on the shelves all the time. It wasn't very good. I probably won't be reading anymore from her.

I'm off to find my next read.
